Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have people talking and guessing the ulterior motive behind their every move.
However, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are not the easiest characters to read. For example, after “Megxit,” many assumed that the power couple was out to destroy the Royal Family and all that the British monarchy stands for.
The bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey and other appearances seemed to confirm that point of view. However, such assessment now appears erroneous.
After the first three episodes of their Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan aired last week, it seems that King Charles III and the monarchy were never the real target of Prince Harry’s grievances.
Even Prince Harry’s stepmother, Camilla, Queen Consort, comes out of this drama unscathed for now.
Moreover, Markle made it clear that she was not very happy after the first encounter with her brother-in-law and his wife, Kate Middleton.
The former actress described their exchange as formal while presenting herself as a hugger. Markle explained: “I guess I started to understand very quickly that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside. That there is a forward-facing way of being. And then you close the door, and you are like, ‘Oh, great. Okay, we can relax now. But that formality carries over on both sides. And that was surprising to me.”
The docuseries mostly avoided making remarks in personal terms.
However, Prince Harry suggested that he does not see eye to eye with Prince William on many things. He talked about people in the Royal Family not marrying for love but instead choosing partners who fit the mold.
For many observers, this sounded like a direct reference to his brother. The renegade royal also aired a clip of a controversial interview featuring their late mother, Princess Diana.
The Prince of Wales previously requested that the interview never be aired again. Prince Harry made a different call.
According to people close to Prince William, he feels like his sibling has crossed a line, and it might be impossible to repair the relationship at this point.
A royal insider told The Daily Mail: “All relationships are built on trust, but for members of the Royal Family, who live their life in the spotlight, doubly so. The prince is a very private man and what Harry is doing is the anathema of everything he believes. On that alone, many believe it is unlikely he will ever be able to repair his relationship with them. Too much water has gone under the bridge.”
Some observers now believe that tell-all memoir Spare, out on January 10, will also provide some insights into their complicated relationship.
Reports suggest that Prince William and Prince Harry’s children will still be exchanging gifts for Christmas. However, the adults will not do the same.
