There is a growing split in the Royal Family, and King Charles III is leaving many people anxious.
As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle continue to grab headlines with their Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, the Sovereign remains as cool as a cucumber.
However, people close to him, including Prince William, the heir to the throne, have less patience for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The King was pleasantly surprised to see that his youngest son did not cross any red line in the docuseries. The British monarchy was attacked but not in a particularly frontal way.
Moreover, it seems that Prince Harry is not going to say too much about his stepmother, Camilla, Queen Consort, moving forward. Those elements are big wins for The King, who is refusing to go “nuclear” on his rebellious child.
King Charles is even optimistic that peace can reign in the Royal Family again in the near future. Interestingly, Prince Harry shares the same belief that once the dust settles, people will realize that the deal with Netflix was not that incendiary.
A source shared with The Mirror: “Harry wants King Charles and Prince William to watch the show to get a full understanding of the struggles he and Meghan have faced. Harry is delighted with the narrative of the documentary and how he and Meghan came across. The reason for doing this was to share the truth about their lives. He feels it told the story he wanted the world to hear and has absolutely no regrets.”
People in the Palace want King Charles to become some sort of a warrior for the monarchy. However, that is not how he functions.
A royal insider told Dan Wooton from The Daily Mail: “The message from the King via his senior team continues to be that he is sad rather than angry and hopes that, in time, the issues can be resolved within the family. But that underestimates the mission Harry and Meghan are embarking on, which is about tearing down the institution of the monarchy. Many courtiers believe the King needs to allow the Palace to take a more aggressive response over the next month, with both part two of the Netflix series and the release of Spare, or the damage done, especially internationally, could be hard to counteract.”
This is the total opposite of how Prince William feels. An insider recently revealed: “And then Meghan came along. Everyone warned him off her, but he wouldn’t listen, and she just ripped him away. The bond is gone, completely gone, and this film is just the latest betrayal. William really, really, really hates both of them now. It’s really toxic and destructive for all of them. At the end of the day, they are a family, and their whole family life has been ruined by Meghan. You can’t imagine how bad it really is.”
King Charles is resisting pressure to hit back hard at his son and daughter-in-law for now. But how long can the King resist channeling the anger of his people?
