The Harry & Meghan documentary has put the Royal Family in a very awkward position. With the attacks on the British monarchy, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle proved that they are on a mission.
The renegade royals wanted to modernize the institution before “Megxit.” After failing to bring meaningful change to the organization, it is clear that they have decided to highlight all of its flaws.
Since they are famous, they will get paid nicely along the way. However, some of the statements in the docuseries had a personal element to them.
This suggests that the whole enterprise is also about revenge to some extent. Prince William is the one who received the most vitriol.
The title of The Duke of Sussex‘s upcoming tell-all memoir Spare also alludes to the fact that he has some scores to settle with his brother.
King Charles III has understood the game and believes that taking the high road is the only way out of this twisted drama.
However, doing the same thing has not been particularly easy and simple for the new Prince of Wales. He feels betrayed by his sibling.
Moreover, since he is very protective of his wife, Kate Middleton, another target in the documentary, it is hard for him not to push back publicly.
Sensing that there is a lot of unease, King Charles and Camilla, Queen Consort, are doing all that they can to encourage the future King of England to stay the course.
Ingrid Seward, a royal expert, told The Mirror: “Rather than stooping to their level, they have applauded the couple’s decision not to retaliate in any way.”
Royal commentator Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight that the heir to the throne’s pain is real and reconciliation is very unlikely before a very long time.
She explained: “William will be taking this very personally, and I think he’s incredibly upset and feels very badly betrayed by his brother.”
Nicholl continued: “For the last two years, I just think there is a great sense of mistrust within the family; they just simply feel that any reconciliation is not on the cards because they can’t trust that it’s not going to end up in a TV show or in a book.”
She also added: “I think tempers are high, and there’s a lot of tension, a lot of upset, there’s a lot of anger, and there’s still a lot of resentment. I think any rapprochement is really quite far down the line.”
The Royal Family has not closed the door totally on possibly responding to the power couple’s attacks. The threat of a strong response is still there in case the book goes further than the documentary.
However, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle seem to understand that the monarchy has too much to lose by losing their calm.
Supporters are wondering if Prince William and Kate Middleton can remain the epitome of grace, patience, and dignity for long in the face of so much negativity.
It may not be easy, but the Waleses have the support to go the distance.
