King Charles III has a hot potato on his hands and he has alerted the press to let them know that he has turned the matter over to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Unfortunately for Prince Harry and Markle, there are no winning solutions for them. On May 6th, the world will watch King Charles as he celebrates his most significant milestone.
His Majesty will have a lavish two-hour coronation ceremony in London.
King Charles has close friends and veteran staff members who have all briefed the media to say the same thing — he loves Prince Harry and will invite him and his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children, Archie and Lilibet, to the coronation.
A source close to King Charles told PEOPLE magazine: “It is such a momentous occasion for Charles, and he would want his son to be at the Coronation to witness it. He would like to have Harry back in the family. If they don’t sort it out, it will always be part of the King’s reign and how he has left his family disjointed. He has had a reputation as a distant parent, and it would be awful for him for that to continue.”
A royal expert revealed that King Charles is cleverly handing a mini-crisis to Prince Harry and Markle to handle. The renegade couple will have to either accept or decline the invitation once they receive it.
If they turn it down, they will look petty and vengeful. If they attend, they will seem like hypocrites who are after the spotlight despite making embarrassing revelations about the royals.
Former BBC Royal Correspondent Michael Cole explained: “The King, actually, has played a blinder here. He’s made it clear from the very beginning that his youngest son, and his youngest son’s wife, are perfectly welcome at the Coronation. And, of course, that puts the ball in their court – they have to decide. If they decide they don’t come, it will make them look a little bit petty and mean-spirited. And, of course, if they do come, it will leave them open to the charge of hypocrisy.”
A close friend of Prince Harry spoke to the Daily Beast and confessed that he knows that he has been put in a messy situation.
The pal revealed that Prince Harry and Markle did not have a winning strategy and added: “It’s complicated. There are a million different variables. Anybody could understand the predicament.”
The pal went on to say that Prince Harry and his family have not yet received invitations to the coronation and confirmed that it is starting to look like risky business for him and his wife.
The person stated: “They’ll cross that bridge when they come to it. They do not have any insight. They’re in limbo.”
While promoting his bombshell book Spare, Prince Harry was asked if he would attend the state and religious event, and he said: “There’s a lot that can happen between now and then, but you know, the door is always open. The ball is in their court. There is a lot to be discussed, and I really hope they are willing to sit down and talk about it.”
Making this situation even more complex, Prince Harry has demanded an apology and a meeting before attending the ceremony, and King Charles has refused both requests.
