King Charles III is not one to pull his punches when it comes to his son, Prince Harry, and daughter-in-law Meghan Markle.
For over two years, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex enjoyed a free ride. They could go after the Royal Family and cash in without facing any consequences.
With the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September, things have shifted dramatically. The new sheriff in town does not have a soft spot for the Sussexes like his predecessor did.
Moreover, the Monarch has to show the world that he is strong and willing to do whatever it takes to defend the British monarchy.
The Sovereign gave the power couple two strikes. They used the first one with the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan.
They shared their truths in a not very flattering way for the Royal Family. Instead of pulling back, the pair forged ahead with the former soldier’s tell-all memoir Spare in January.
The release of the book was the red line for King Charles, and the day after it went public, he asked them to vacate their Frogmore Cottage property in the UK.
The King wants Prince Andrew to use the residence moving forward in order to save money. On Tuesday, the Sun broke the news about the Sussexes’ shocking eviction.
An insider told the media outlet: “This eviction surely spells the end of Harry and Meghan’s time in the UK. Andrew is resisting the idea of moving into Frogmore Cottage after he was offered it last week. But it shows Harry and Meghan are powerless to stop the eviction.”
It is clear that someone in the Royal Family leaked the embarrassing information to the media to humiliate Prince Harry and Markle.
The move worked perfectly because it forced the Sussexes to release an official statement on the matter.
On Wednesday, via their Archewell organization, the couple stated: “We can confirm The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been requested to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage.”
In the PR war with the monarchy, many assumed that King Charles would hit the Sussexes hard by removing their titles. However, he chose a surprising path that might be even more damaging.
Frogmore Cottage meant a lot to the couple. They have even spent close to $3 million on renovations. They used taxpayers’ money at first, but Prince Harry eventually reimbursed the whole amount.
Queen Elizabeth gave them the property as a wedding gift in 2018. They kept it intact even after moving to California in 2020 so “their family would always have a place to call home in the United Kingdom.”
King Charles has other plans and is showing them that he is still in control. The book hurt the British royals, but the latest developments still put them ahead on the scoreboard.
