It was the news that broke the internet — King Charles III decided to evict Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, from their forever home — Frogmore Cottage.
The story was leaked from Buckingham Palace to the media just days before invitations are sent out for the King‘s coronation ceremony.
The eviction story was so shocking that many royal observers assumed it was a wild rumor, even a hoax put out to humiliate the renegade royals.
However, within hours, Prince Harry and Markle issued an official statement confirming they had been booted out of the home.
A spokeswoman for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said: “We can confirm The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been requested to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage.”
Royal observers say that King Charles made the pitiless move out of revenge for the cruelty that Prince Harry inflicted on Camilla, Queen Consort, via his bestselling book Spare.
However, according to a piece that appeared in the Telegraph, it was also a stroke of genius from King Charles to ensure Prince Harry, who is no longer a senior working royal, will never need to be called upon as one of his Counselors of State.
When King Charles ascended to the throne, he called upon the British Parliament to fast-track legislation, so Princess Anne and Prince Edward could be added as Counselors of State.
The Counselors of State can carry out constitutional duties for the Monarch if he is ill or traveling abroad.
King Charles rushed to add his siblings as counselors because he no longer wanted Prince Harry, who had moved to California, and Prince Andrew, who was involved in a sex scandal, to step in for him.
King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Kate Middleton have plans for a royal tour in Canada, Europe, and Australia starting in the spring, and the “counselors could be a necessity when they are away.”
By evicting Prince Harry, King Charles made sure that he no longer has an address on British soil and would no longer have the privilege or the title of being a counselor.
The publication explained: “By maintaining a UK address, the Duke qualified as being “domiciled” in Britain and so remained eligible to serve as a Counselor of State, a position for which he is now expected to be sidelined.”
Sources close to Prince Harry and Markle revealed that they are not bothered by King Charles’s actions and one of them added: “It is what it is. They are not fighting it. They realize they have a home [in California]. They have a roof over their heads. They were very privileged to have a second residence. It’s not going to work out for them there, and that’s OK.”
The insider also claimed: “The world seems to be more distraught over it than they have been and accepted that change was inevitable as Charles was always known to be looking to slim down the Monarchy.”
Despite the chaos, things remain calm between the two sides.
