After weeks of dithering, Prince Harry did what everyone knew he would do — he accepted the invitation to attend King Charles III‘s coronation ceremony.
The former soldier took a long time to decide the best possible solution to his coronation conundrum amid the ongoing rift with the Royal Family.
Prince Harry will travel to London alone, and his wife, Meghan Markle, will remain in California with their young children, Archie and Lilibet.
King Charles’s Buckingham Palace issued a brief statement confirming that Prince Harry will be at the crowning event solo. He used the occasion to be magnanimous towards Markle and his grandchildren.
Using the statement, King Charles acknowledged Archie and Lilibet’s titles for the first time.
His Majesty wrote: “Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that The Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on May 6. The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”
A source close to Markle spoke to Page Six and revealed the real reason why she decided to skip the major event.
The person in the know said that it would be “inauthentic” for the Duchess of Sussex to fly to London after all the painful moments that took place with the Royal Family.
However, she was fully supportive of Prince Harry’s decision to be with his father on the most important day of his life.
The sources told Page Six: “They had to make a decision that felt genuine and authentic, especially after everything that has been said and all the things that have gone down. The words that Harry and Meghan have said about the importance of their family are lining up with their actions. They care about their family, so Meghan is going to stay [in California], and Harry is going to support his dad.”
Markle used the opportunity to slam the reports that she has a controlling nature and she is the puppet master pulling all the strings.
The person claimed: “It’s a decision they made together as a family. If she was super controlling, then she could have made sure that Harry didn’t go. She’s all good, and she supports Harry — they both have nothing more to prove.”
It is believed that Markle stayed away from the coronation because she felt unwelcome by the Royal Family.
Reports have stated that Prince Harry will receive an icy cold treatment at the coronation.
