The 2023 Met Gala took place on Monday, May 1, and there were wild speculations that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry would attend.

The spectacular fashion gala honoring late fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld was just five days before one the most significant events of the decade — King Charles III‘s coronation ceremony.

A few weeks ago, Markle seemed unlikely to be walking the famous red carpet of the New York A-list event. Still, anything was possible now that she has officially declined to attend the coronation.

Another reason commentators thought Markle would make her debut at the 2023 Met Gala is the colossal announcement she recently signed with representation with WME — known as one of the most influential and prestigious agencies in the world.

The move implies that Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, is about to become a worldwide phenomenon like Dwayne Johnson and Serena William, whose brands are architected by WME.

Some speculated that VME would see the event as a great way to launch Meghan Markle 2.0 by having her make a splash at the gala next to Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, Zendaya, and Beyoncé.

The possibility of Markle stealing the light with a high-profile appearance at the event had pushed a royal expert to issue a warning to King Charles.

Royal commentator Daniela Elser believes that the Duchess of Sussex is preparing a major takeover and will bluntly remind the Royal Family that they lost a major player.

Speculating over whether Meghan Markle would attend the Met Gala, Elser said, according to Express: “If Meghan did go this time, it would be an exquisitely timed opportunity to remind the Royal Family what they had lost and to kick off Coronation week with her face on every website, social media post, newspaper, magazine, and viral video there is. (Good luck to Camilla explaining to her husband what that last one means.).”

She went on to say in news.com.au: “Which is to say, prepare yourself for a Meghan onslaught in May. We are about to get a big heady dose of Meghan the Style Icon, Meghan the Sainted Mother, Meghan the Adoring and Adored Wife, and Meghan the Activist Superhero.”

The veteran royal author and expert concluded with a poignant question — will King Charles, Camilla, Queen Consort, and the other royals be able to compete with Markle’s well-oiled PR machine?

She wrote: “So, can Charles even begin to compete in the battle for May? In the weeks after his coronation and in his first month as an anointed King, will anyone, anywhere, be paying much attention to whatever he and Queen Camilla are up to while the ready-for-her-close-up, camera-ready Duchess is back with a vengeance?”

Markle is keeping her critics on their toes.
