Three days before King Charles III‘s coronation ceremony, Prince Harry has yet to confirm when or if he will travel to London to attend the event.
Many royal watchers believe that Prince Harry being present for the biggest day of King Charles’s life is a first step to ending the major rift that has settled between Montecito and London for the past three years.
Even though Prince Harry’s presence at the crowning ceremony is up in the air, it seems King Charles has plans for his American and biracial grandchildren — Archie and Lilibet.
His Majesty faced significant backlash over his brutal decision not to invite Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s two young children to the crowning.
He was also slammed for further cutting ties with Archie and Lilibet by evicting their parents from Frogmore Cottage.
With Prince Harry and Markle not having a home in England, it became increasingly clear that they would not travel to the UK very often.
And there is no hope of King Charles flying to California anytime soon — which implies there will be little relationship between His Majesty and his grandchildren.
However, a friend of King Charles told The Daily Beast that the door is open for him to have a relationship with Archie and Lilibet once the stress and commotion over the coronation are over.
The royal insider told the media outlet: “The whole thing with Harry is just desperately sad. And [Charles] is also very saddened by the estrangement from the children. But at least Harry attending the coronation is a chink of light. The door has not been totally slammed shut.”
Writer and royal expert Christopher Andersen spoke to The Daily Beast and weighed in on King Charles’s decision to have open arms towards Archie and Lilibet by saying they will be welcomed into the royal fold.
He explained: “Charles has to be very relieved and pleased that his second son will be there, even if Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet won’t. This doesn’t mean Archie and Lilibet won’t be welcomed into the royal fold at some future date. I’m sure Charles would like for that to happen.”
He went on to say that King Charles’ expectations of Archie and Lilibet will undoubtedly push him to reach out and make contact.
The writer said the following about the role that King Charles plays as a grandfather: “Now that he knows the joys of being a grandparent, on some deep emotional level, the king must feel a connection to Harry and Meghan’s children. But first, all parties have to find a way to mend the torn relationship between the Sussexes and the rest of the clan.”
It seems that in the future, King Charles will be able to bond and create memories with Prince William‘s and Prince Harry’s children.
