After their terrifying car chase in New York, the media slammed King Charles III for not reaching out to Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, to check on them.
King Charles has decided to make a gesture towards the duo, but it comes with a warning of “I told you so.” The Montecito royals attended an award ceremony where Markle was recognized for her work to push gender equality and women’s rights.
Prince Harry and Markle were accompanied by the Duchess‘s mother, Doria Ragland. After the event, the royals and Ragland took an SUV to get back to the friend’s home where they were staying.
However, there was an incident during their short trip. In a statement, Prince Harry and Markle said a group of aggressive paparazzi chased them for two hours, and they almost had an accident.
The spokesperson said: “(It) last(ed) over two hours, resulting in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians, and two NYPD (New York Police Department) officers.”
The police and a taxi driver involved in the drama said the situation was uncomfortable but not as dramatic as the Sussexes painted it to be.
When King Charles was approached for a comment on the situation, he first declined. Prince William and Kate Middleton have also refused to talk about the New York incident.
However, within hours after refusing to give an official statement, King Charles decided to brief the media on his thoughts via a close friend.
According to a person close to King Charles who talked to the Daily Beast, he is concerned about Prince Harry and Markle and understands that it was a frightening moment for them.
He went on to issue a brutal warning for the California-based royals. The friend said King Charles has always talked to Prince Harry about not complaining and fighting with the media and paparazzi.
According to His Majesty, going head-to-head with the press only makes the situation worse and potentially dangerous.
The royal associate told The Daily Beast: “Charles will completely understand Harry being upset at being pursued by the paparazzi. He knows how scary it can be. But he has always tried to get Harry to understand that complaining about photographers or the media is pointless. It just makes it all worse.”
The brutal scolding also shows that King Charles is aggravated by the ongoing court battles that Prince Harry has against multiple media giants.
The Duke of Sussex and several high celebrities have sued Rupert Murdoch-owned media companies for breaching their privacy.
In court, Prince Harry slammed the Royal Family for signing sneaky deals with the tabloids and accepting large sums of money to settle cases behind closed doors.
