Before the dramatic car chase, Meghan Markle was honored with an award at the Ms. Foundation 2023 Women of Vision Awards: Celebrating Generations of Progress & Power.
Her husband, Prince Harry, and her mother, Doria Ragland, accompanied Markle to the event.
After receiving her award from iconic activist and journalist Gloria Steinem, Markle delivered a spectacular speech where she spoke about service.
The former actress stated: “I suppose the point is it’s just never too late to start. You can be the visionary of your own life. You can charter a path in which what you repeat in your daily acts of service, in kindness, in advocacy, in grace, and in fairness, that those become the very things that are recognized by the next wave of women, both young and old, who will also choose this moment to join the movement and make our vision for an equitable world reality.”
Some royal watchers deemed that Markle delivered a public blow to King Charles III and Prince William, who have led a life of service.
Queen Elizabeth II spent 70 years promoting service and leading the way for the royals to follow.
During the coronation, both King Charles and Prince William promised to serve the British people — another reason why some saw Markle’s words as a cruel provocation.
Royal expert Christopher Andersen via the Daily Mail, explained that the move from Markle was a slap and added: “What a slap in the face to the man who walked her down the aisle when her own father didn’t show up at her wedding, and to the country she adopted, for better or worse, as her own.”
Andersen went on to say that Markle is great at talking about charity, but she should remember that saying that charity should begin at home.
Markle was asked to help end the rift between Prince Harry, Prince William, and King Charles.
The royal expert shared: “You know, charity begins at home. Much of the time, Harry looks like a fish out of water, and you don’t have to be an expert to see he’s still hurting. If she is truly a sensitive and caring person, she will make it her top priority to help mend her husband’s relationship with his brother Prince William and the king. Marrying into the royal family, accepting a title, and then bailing to take advantage of your new global superstar status seems, well, tacky.”
Markle has been more subtle than her husband in the attacks on the Royal Family.
