Céline Dion revealed in December 2022 that she had been struggling with an illness and was forced to cancel her world tour.
The legendary Canadian star explained that she had been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS). Since then, there have not been many updates on the diva’s health.
This week, Céline Dion’s sister, Claudette Dion, did an interview to explain that the situation is complicated, but the family remains hopeful.
Sitting down with the Canadian publication Le Journal de Montréal, Claudette revealed that it is almost impossible to find medications that work for her sister.
Claudette Dion also revealed that her sister, Linda Dion, has moved in with Celine Dion to be part of her caretaker team.
She told the publication: “We are unable to find any medicine that works, but we still believe in the importance of having hope.”
Claudette went on to explain that the “Because You Loved Me” artist is carefully listening to the advice of renowned doctors and researchers who have expertise in Stiff Person Syndrome.
She shared: “She is studying and learning from the world’s best doctors specializing in this rare disease. We trust her. It is within her. She has always been very disciplined in everything she’s ever accomplished in her life.”
Claudette also explained why it was important for Céline Dion to hit a pause on her career. She stated: “I honestly think she just needs to rest. She’s spent all her life above it all, trying to be the biggest and strongest. At some point, your ‘little’ heart and ‘little’ body is speaking to you. It’s important.”
In late 2022, Céline Dion took to social media, where she posted a video explaining her health issues.
In the video, the 55-year-old entertainer explained: “Recently I have been diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder called the stiff-person syndrome (SPS), which affects something like one in a million people. I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time, and it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through.”
According to the experts at the National Organisation of Rare DiseasesStiff Person Syndrome is “a rare acquired neurological disorder that most often causes progressive muscle stiffness (rigidity) and repeated episodes of painful muscle spasms.”
In May 2023, Céline Dion was forced to post another message on her official Instagram page confirming that she had no choice but to cancel her world tour altogether.
She revealed: “I’m so sorry to disappoint all of you once again. I’m working really hard to build back my strength, but touring can be very difficult even when you’re 100%. It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to be back on stage again. I want you all to know, I’m not giving up, and I can’t wait to see you again!”
Fans are hoping that she will be able to go on tour.
