And sometimes the decisions are designated to be rather brutal attacks on the other party. A week after King Charles’s Buckingham Palace humiliated Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, sources and royal watchers are sharing the backstory behind the sudden move.
As Prince Harry and Meghan were busy making headlines with their trips, outings, charity events, and business announcements, King Charles made it a point to send a direct notification to them.
His Majesty did what his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, refused to do: completely shut the door on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ever returning to the royal fold.
With a few mouse clicks, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s HRH titles were erased from the Royal Family’s website. Prince Harry and his spouse were also downgraded; their bios were pushed down to the “corner of the forgotten.”
One royal expert explained why King Charles is making that move. According to the author, there is no confusion or misunderstanding, King Charles decided that the time had arrived to give Prince Harry a reality check.
It seems that the message was not clear enough when His Majesty decided to evict Prince Harry and Markle from Frogmore Cottage.
Richard Kay, of the Daily Mail, says King Charles is putting Prince Harry and Markle on notice: the royal chapter has been permanently closed for them after the interviews, the Netflix series, and the bombshell tell-all memoir Spare.
The expert shared: “For it was surely no coincidence that the Prince’s arrival in the Far East coincided with the brutal reality check administered by Buckingham Palace about his status — and that of his wife, Meghan — in the new‑look Royal Family. Three years after stepping down as working royals, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have this week seen their HRH titles quietly erased from the British monarchy’s website.”
He went on to reveal: “They were also downgraded on the official pecking order so that their online biographies appear below those of Princess Alexandra and the Duke of Kent — even though Harry, as fifth in the line of succession, is significantly closer to the throne than his elderly second cousins. Predictably, courtiers downplayed the gravity of the move. They insisted it was a mere “tidying up” of a situation that has existed since the couple headed into Californian exile in 2020.”
The author revealed that the King‘s move was intentional because he found the timing right.
He wrote: “For all his anguish about his youngest son, King Charles has been more decisive. He evicted the couple from their Windsor property, Frogmore Cottage, and many detect his hand in the adjustments carried out to the royal website. ‘Even if he didn’t authorize it, he must have been aware that the changes were certain to become a talking point,’ says a long-time adviser. With the first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death fast approaching, the moment to make the change was judged to be the right one.”
Prince Harry and Markle have received the message and are looking for new means to have a steady income for their family and security.
