Steve Harwell is in the final chapter of his life, according to a statement issued by his manager, Robert Hayes.
The 56-year-old Smash Mouth singer, who has been battling multiple health issues and addictions, is expected to die in the upcoming days.
According to a spokesperson, the Smash Mouth lead singer is at home, where he is receiving hospice care. The famous rocker is surrounded by his friends and family, including his fiancée.
His loved ones have gathered to say a final goodbye. The statement from the manager read: “Steve is resting at home and being cared for by his fiancé and hospice care. Although Steve is here with us still, sadly it will only be for a short time. He is surrounded by Family and Friends.”
The representative went on to ask for privacy during this difficult time. The statement concluded by: “My only additional comment is that we would hope that people would respect Steve and his family’s privacy during this difficult time.”
Steve Harwell has reached the final stage of liver failure. In 2021, Harwell retired from music after a performance in New York at the Big Sip Festival left many concerned and angry.
During the show, Harwell slurred the lyrics of the song and made obscene gestures. At the time, it was confirmed that he was dealing with several health issues, including cardiomyopathy, heart failure, and Wernicke’s encephalopathy.
Steve Harwell’s medical problems got more complicated because of struggles with alcohol abuse throughout the years.
He announced his heartbreaking retirement in a message that said: “Ever since I was a kid, I dreamed of being a rock star, performing in front of sold-out arenas, and have been so fortunate to live out that dream. To my bandmates, it’s been an honor performing with you all these years and I can’t think of anyone else I would have rather gone on this wild journey with.”
He went on to say: “To our loyal and amazing fans, thank you, all of this was possible because of you. I’ve tried so hard to power through my physical and mental health issues and to play in front of you one last time, but I just wasn’t able to. I am so grateful to each and every one of you who has helped Smash Mouth sell over 10 million albums worldwide, put us on top of radio charts, and those who have kept ‘All Star’ relevant as one of the top memes on the internet today. I cannot wait to see what Smash Mouth accomplishes next and am looking forward to counting myself as one of the band’s newest fans.”
Smash Mouth was born in the 1990s and is known for smashing hits including “All Star,” “I’m a Believer,” and “Walking on The Sun.”
