Some will be surprised and others not so much, but Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, are serious about a big return to England, but not for the reasons people might expect.
Over the summer, rumors started slowly dripping into the American and British media, claiming that Prince Harry was ready to take a step forward or backward, depending on the angle.
The Duke of Sussex now wants to return to his home country. The former soldier is not exactly planning to get his old job back, he was hoping to be a new kind of part-time working royal.
Prince Harry wants to be in his native country, reconnect with his father, King Charles III, and take part in some charitable events on behalf of the monarchy.
It all seems implausible after all the major revelations and countless dramas between London and Montecito. However, a source from King Charles’s Buckingham Palace confirmed it was all true.
The insider revealed that Prince Harry wants to return to the UK more often with Meghan Markle and their two children, Archie and Lilibet.
According to Tom Quinn, author of Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family, he has spoken to reliable sources who say that the pair is eyeing a reconciliation.
He revealed that contrary to what has been reported, Markle would be by her husband’s side if he was welcomed back to the UK.
He stated: “I spoke to someone who said they [Meghan and Harry] were hoping that there would be some kind of reconciliation, which would at least allow them to come back to England more often and take part in royal events that they wanted to take part in.”
He went on to say that King Charles and Prince William will not accept Prince Harry’s modern template of doing things because that is not the way the monarchy works.
He shared: “However, I think this balancing act is impossible.”
The royal author said that Queen Elizabeth II hated the idea, and King Charles felt the same way.
Quin explained: “The whole emphasis between King Charles and Prince William is that you cannot go against the late Queen’s firm belief that you can’t be a part-time royal. You can’t hobnob with celebrities in America for six months and then come back here and pick and choose which events you want to be part of. It is untenable. I don’t think Charles and William will agree to that simply because Elizabeth hates the idea.”
The Duke of Sussex might get his cake and eat it too.
