There is still a lot of confusion between the Montecito royals and the British royal family, but Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have always been clear about one thing. They want an apology.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been pretty consistent in interviews and elsewhere that the Royal Family has hurt them in different ways.
Prince Harry describes his father, King Charles III, as someone who could have done more to protect him while growing up in the monarchy. Queen Camilla is the awful “other woman” who destroyed his parents’ relationship.
Moreover, the anti-bullying activist and his wife say that Prince William and Kate Middleton were not supportive enough after Markle joined the Royal Family.
To make matters worse, according to the Sussexes, the family failed to support them when they needed it the most. Despite those statements, the Royal Family often feels lost and unsure of what the power couple wants from them.
According to a royal expert, Prince William, in particular, has a hard time understanding the list of things that he has to apologize for. This kind of misunderstanding makes reconciliation less likely in the foreseeable future.
For Gareth Russell, a royal historian, the Prince of Wales is taking a tough line and does not see why an apology is necessary.
Mr. Russell told GB News: “So I don’t think anyone’s 100 percent sure what it is. Even according to Prince Harry himself, Prince William doesn’t know what it is. There’s a bit in the memoir where Prince Harry says William was asking, ‘What is it? What is the problem? And Prince Harry said to himself, ‘How could he not know?’ So I think maybe there’s a lot of things that Prince Harry is carrying around. But it’s possible that even Prince William isn’t 100 percent sure what all of them saw, according to Prince Harry.”
The expert also shared: “In Spare, he spent so much time complaining about who got the better room at Balmoral. Plus, for it to be released in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis was an interesting move. It does emerge as quite personal and maybe longstanding, and maybe it is jealousy. As the title of the memoir suggests, Prince Harry has always felt like a spare, so basically it’s just the luck of the family tree there. He makes quite cryptic comments like ‘They know what they did’. Which, given that he’s prepared to specify in detail everything else, is strange.”
Prince Harry suggested in past interviews that the Royal Family failed to take his demand seriously. He stated: “The way I see it is, I’m willing to forgive you [the Royal Family] for everything you’ve done, and I wish you’d actually sat down with me, properly, and instead of saying I’m delusional and paranoid, actually sit down and have a proper conversation about this, because what I’d really like is some accountability.”
The father of two also wants a real apology for his wife. However, people close to Prince William and Kate Middleton are starting to push back. They wonder if the Waleses do not deserve an apology too.
The proponents of this idea say that the Sussexes hurt their relatives with the bombshell interviews, the Netflix docuseries, and the book Spare.
As big supporters of mental health, the Sussexes should know when to make amends and seek forgiveness. They have unloaded on the Waleses for years, and this certainly affected their mental health, an insider pointed out. In clear, their words and actions have had more repercussions than they are willing to acknowledge.
This standstill is likely to last a very long time if the two sides are demanding an apology.
