At the age of 54, Matthew Perry has died. The beloved actor was famous for playing Chandler Bing on the classic series Friends.
The star drowned in his California home just after 4 p.m., according to TMZ. According to law enforcement, Perry’s body was discovered in the jacuzzi of his home, located in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles.
According to the police, they, along with first responders, rushed to the scene after a frantic 911 call explaining that Perry was unresponsive after suffering a cardiac arrest.
The authorities have confirmed that no drugs were found at the scene and no foul play is suspected. TMZ reports that Matthew Perry’s assistant discovered his lifeless body.
Sources told the media outlet that Perry spent two hours having fun and playing pickleball. He returned home at 2 p.m. and sent his assistant “out on an errand.”
When the assistant returned home, he found Matthew Perry in the jacuzzi. In a statement, the Los Angeles Police Department revealed: “We responded to the 1800 block of Blue Sail Rd for a death investigation on a male at 4:10 p.m. this afternoon. He was in his 50s.”
Warner Bros. Television, which produced Friends, said in a statement: “We are devastated by the passing of our dear friend Matthew Perry. Matthew was an incredibly gifted actor. … The impact of his comedic genius was felt around the world, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of so many. This is a heartbreaking day, and we send our love to his family, and his loved ones. And all of his devoted fans.”
Matthew Perry’s last two Instagram posts have fans in tears and asking tough questions. Six days ago, he posted a picture of himself sitting in a jacuzzi at night.
The actor is wearing headphones and looking out over the city. He captioned the heartbreaking photo: “Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good? I’m Mattman.”
Matthew Perry also shared a picture of the bat signal with this message: “Do you understand what I’m trying to tell you? – I’m Mattman.”
A fan reacted by writing:”This makes it even more sad that he passed away 💔.” Another supporter penned this heartbreaking note: “I’ve been saying his posts were strange, which him passing away has me floored.”
A devastated person shared: “I read his book while I was in rehab after a suicide attempt earlier this year. It helped me get through it & gave me some hope to keep going. Now hearing that he died, I’m devastated. Especially because of the speculation that it could have been intentional.”
