Close to four years after leaving the British royal family, Prince Harry is starting to have some serious doubts about the choice he made.
Moreover, according to reports, The Duke of Sussex and his wife, Meghan Markle, do not even see eye to eye when it comes to what they should be doing next.
While he is no longer very high on their priority list, his future has become a worrisome issue for some members of the Royal Family.
A famous royal commentator, who has been in touch with Palace insiders, gives some insight about their current thinking in an interview with The Daily Express US.
Tom Quinn, who is the author behind Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family, shared: “Someone who worked for Harry when they were at Frogmore in Windsor said to me: ‘What are they going to do when people lose interest in all the complaining? What happens when the complaining has to stop? What positive role can he have as a royal?”
Mr. Quin continued: “Harry’s made it very clear he feels horribly, badly treated. And I think he’s already beginning to regret it because he understands the value of being a member of the Royal Family.”
For Quin, there is something deep at the root of Prince Harry’s criticism and general unease with the Royal Family. The commentator believes for Prince Harry it is not good enough for him to be number 2.
The subtext of the Spare memoir makes it clear that Prince Harry feels that his hard work makes him more deserving of the role of heir to throne.
The activist sees Prince William as a slacker without a real vision to modernize the Royal Family. In a way, Meghan Markle shares those same feelings because she too thought she could change the system.
Quin pointed out: “All Harry’s complaining is really about the fact that he’s not number one, he doesn’t have a bigger role.”
He continued: “I think that’s why he clicked with Meghan because she comes from a society where if you work hard and you’re talented, you can get to the top.”
The marriage to Markle offered him an opportunity to reshape his destiny. However, the reality is not exactly what they expected. The disillusion is now fueling regrets.
Critics say Prince Harry should have used his aunt, Anne, Princess Royal, as a true inspiration because she is very humble and focuses on doing the job.
Princess Anne has no role in the line of succession. Yet, she is a beloved figure with a key position in the British monarchy.
