Ahead of the performance of a lifetime, Usher has decided to share some of the secrets. The R&B crooner and dancer will be performing for the Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
In multiple interviews, Usher revealed that it is hard, or almost impossible, to squeeze a career that spans almost 30 years into a 15-minute show, but he will try.
Usher told the Associated Press: “Don’t take the moments for granted because you only get 13 of them. The hardest part is trying to figure out how to squeeze it all in when you actually have a large catalog, or a lot of records people celebrate and love.”
He has revealed that he plans to perform his biggest hits and will drop a few surprises in the shape of unexpected remixes. Usher will also bring out a long list of special guests.
The artist has collaborated with some big names in the music industry, including Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Lil Wayne, Monica, Lil Jon, Ludacris, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Gucci Mane, and most recently, BTS star Jung Kook and H.E.R.
Via the Las Vegas Review-Journal, he shared: “I can’t give too much, because I don’t want to blow it. But I will say that that moment will not only represent me, but it will also represent my legacy and the things that I’ve been a part of in collaboration. It will remind the world that when you do collaborate, something amazing does happen.”
So, what does the star have in store for the millions of viewers? The artist has promised to sing all his big hits, such as “Yeah!” “DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love,” “Hey Daddy,” “My Boo,” and “Love in This Club.”
Usher told fans via Extra: “You’re going to hit records… I do want to play the songs that people recognize and the ones that I celebrate.”
According to TMZ, Usher is talking to his protégé, Justin Bieber, about making an appearance at the Super Bowl.
The media outlet reports: “Usher 45, who signed Bieber, now 29, to his record label in 2008 – is said to be ‘directly talking’ to the pop star after he made a return to the stage in Toronto recently amid a battle with Ramsay Hunt syndrome.”
Usher has confirmed that Ludacris and Lil Jon will be with him for a fiery performance of “Yeah!” He said: “I would be a fool to not play Yeah! Let’s just start there. It would be foolish to make it all the way to Las Vegas; Jon is here, Luda’s, and not play ‘Yeah!”
Reports have been swirling, claiming that Taylor Swift might make a surprise appearance with Usher. TMZ made it clear that this would not happen.
According to photos obtained sher by TMZ, Usher will have a stellar skating routine that he is famous for and a special guest appearance by “My Boo” collaborator Alicia Keys.
E! News asked Rihanna — the person who delivered the most-watched Super Bowl show, if she had any advice for Usher, and she had this to say: “Hell no, I can’t give Usher any advice. Usher is a natural, he’s a legend, he’s been doing this since he was a teenager. He is made for that show.”
If Rihanna believes it will be a great show, well, the show will indeed be great.
