Many critics of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex thought that things would go differently after a car chase in New York last year.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle claimed in May 2023 that paparazzi in New York put their lives in danger after an event.
Skeptics said at the time that the power couple was exaggerating the incident in order to get sympathy headlines. However, their assessment was wrong and the Sussex’s claims have now been vindicated by the New York Police Department’s Chief of Intelligence.
The NYPD said in a statement: “We found the following: reckless disregard of vehicle and traffic laws and persistently dangerous and unacceptable behavior on the part of the paparazzi during the night in question.”
The authorities in New York are looking for two suspects. Moreover, security for the Sussexes will be upgraded to avoid such incidents in the future.
This is an interesting development in this case because New York Mayor Eric Adams and their taxi driver, Sukhcharn Singh, said their reaction was over the top.
Mr. Singh stated: “I never felt like I was in danger. …It’s New York—it’s safe.” Adams chimed in: “I would find it hard to believe that there was a two-hour high-speed chase.”
Some observers say that the Sussexes will use this and other positive developments to their advantage as they keep building a case for a return to England.
According to reports, the whole family could head to the UK in May. The Duke of Sussex will be celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games. Markle has not set foot in England since 2022 for the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
An insider told OK! Magazine: “Harry is very keen for his entire family to join him. It’s important for him that they show a united front and focus on building bridges with the rest of the Royal Family.”
The person continued: “The move to bring the Invictus Games back to Britain is seen as an opportunity for Harry and he is very keen to take it. He is adamant that he wants Meghan and the children to join him, but I think she may be apprehensive and I think she finds being in the UK very uncomfortable.”
Fans of the Royal Family are hoping that Prince Harry will only bring the children and that Markle will stay in California. This is unlikely because The Duke will try to use the trip to bridge more of the divide with his relatives.
The supporters are telling King Charles III to keep his guard up because the Sussexes will launch a relentless charm offensive this summer.
