Meghan Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, might be getting the royal treatment in Colombia, but they still do not have many fans in the British monarchy.
King Charles III has made it clear that he is not interested in their drama and prefers to keep his distance from them. He did not even bother inviting them to his summer retreat.
Moreover, to make matters worse, he might even punish them in a harsh way for their little tour de force in Colombia.
The Monarch‘s wife, Queen Camilla, shares many of his concerns. She also has trouble getting over the personal attacks from Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare.
Prince William has not spoken to his brother in over two years, and he has no intention to change course. The heir to the throne has signaled that The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not be invited to his coronation.
The father of three is more focused on the health issues of his wife, Kate Middleton. The Sussexes are not priorities for him.
Other royals like Princess Anne have also shown that they prefer to keep the power couple as far as possible. The two celebrities really cannot go home.
The unfortunate situation has pained the Sussexes because they thought reconciliation was really possible. However, it has also freed them.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are no longer forced to play by some arbitrary rules, hoping for some kind of reward in the end. They can try to conquer the world as they see fit.
The trip to Nigeria was an opening salvo. They are building on that success with Colombia. The Invictus Games in Canada will be followed by more quasi-royal trips around the globe, during which the Sussexes will always be well-treated.
Here is what the Colombia Vice President Francia Márquez had to say about their visit: “How did I get to know Meghan and Harry? I first encountered them through the media, and I particularly watched the Netflix series about their lives and their story, which deeply moved me. It motivated me to say, ‘This is a woman who deserves to visit our country and share her story,’ and undoubtedly, her visit will strengthen so many women around the world.”
Ms. Márquez is talking about Markle as someone with global reach, and the Sussexes intend to capitalize on that. Moreover, while her business endeavors are not doing great, she is still making a lot of money via her work on Suits, the most-watched streaming show.
An insider told Express: “They amount to the sort of bonuses most actors can only dream of. She might be in a different financial league now, but I’m sure she’s as delighted as her cast mates with the unexpected boost. Her character Rachel Zane has become a cult figure again with a new, younger audience. And, like everyone else involved, she must be thrilled that the Suits revival is still going strong after 12 months.”
The deal with Netflix and Peacock keeps Markle in the spotlight in a subtle way. The Royal Family might not want to hear it, but she is staying the limelight and keeping Prince Harry there too.
