Ana de Armas‘s latest controversial move has spectacularly backfired.
This was supposed to be Armas’s summer — promoting her highly anticipated movie Ballerina and debuting her much-talked-about romance with Tom Cruise.
Instead, the Cuban-American actress is dominating headlines for what critics are calling “mean-girl” and childish behavior toward Nicole Kidman.
The controversy began with a demeaning Instagram post on the account “celebmess,” which attacked Nicole Kidman’s personal decision to have plastic surgery.
The post, originally uploaded in January, featured two photos of Kidman — one from 1996 and a more recent one. It also included multiple quotes from a lengthy 2007 interview with Marie Claire where Kidman discussed her use of Botox, her appearance, and cosmetic surgery.
The post revisited a widely speculated rumor that the Oscar winner had been using Botox to maintain her youthful look, which Kidman had adamantly denied by stating: “To be honest, I am completely natural. I have nothing in my face or anything. I wear sunscreen, and I don’t smoke. I take care of myself. And I’m very proud to say that.”
Kidman added that while she doesn’t judge cosmetic procedures, she personally values physical health. Kidman confessed: “Anybody can do anything to themselves, their bodies. I have no judgment on it. I personally believe in physical health because of the way I was raised. I can’t go in the sun; I’m fair-skinned. That was a nightmare when I was a kid, but it has some benefits now. It’s that simple.”
While the post was shared over eight months ago, it is only now that it has landed on Ana de Armas’s radar, and she couldn’t help but like it. Her petty move quickly went viral and drew widespread criticism.
One person remarked on the situation: “This is a total mean-girl move by Ana de Armas. Why would she do something so childish? It definitely backfired on her.”
Another claimed: “Liking that post about Nicole Kidman was so petty. It’s hard to imagine what she was thinking.”
A disappointed fan shared: “I was rooting for Ana, but this is a massive self-own. Her actions have now overshadowed her entire movie, nice personality, and romance.”
Nicole Kidman has decided not to dignify Ana de Armas’s malicious and petty dig with a response. Instead, Kidman is focused on her family life, her daughters’ blooming careers, and her upcoming projects.
These include the sequel to Practical Magic, where she will reunite with Sandra Bullock, and the thriller film Holland. Kidman will also return to the small screen with the series Girls and Their Horses and has a movie, Scarpetta, in development.
Meanwhile, de Armas’s film Ballerina is considered a box office flop, with its worldwide gross of $132 million falling well short of its reported $90 million budget plus marketing costs.
