Each day this week has brought a new twist to the legal battle between actress Blake Lively and her It Ends With Us co-star and director, Justin Baldoni.
The latest chapter in this saga features the unsealing of a shocking exhibit: an email. It contained private details about a heated confrontation between Blake Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds, and Baldoni.
According to the court document, the Deadpool star allegedly “unloaded” on Baldoni in front of celebrity friends Taylor Swift and Hugh Jackman.
A Fiery Confrontation Witnessed By Stars
An email from Jamey Heath‘s team, the Wayfarer Studios co-founder, to Baldoni’s publicist claims that on April 25, 2023, a meeting at Reynolds and Lively’s New York City penthouse escalated into a shouting match.
It was claimed that Reynolds was enraged over Baldoni’s alleged comments about his wife’s body. Believing his wife had been disrespected, Reynold confronted Baldoni.
According to the document: Reynolds “unloaded” on Baldoni about “how horrible it was” to ask about a woman’s weight. They alleged Baldoni “was fat-shaming Blake.” Baldoni was “completely embarrassed and apologized, even sharing tears.”
Adding to the shock, the recap stated that the couple’s famous pals, Taylor Swift and Hugh Jackman, “were also present in the apt at the time” of the meeting, making them alleged witnesses to the volatile exchange.
The Controversial Weight Inquiry
Reynolds accused Baldoni of contacting Lively’s fitness trainer without her permission. Lively’s lawsuit accuses Baldoni of “finding back-channel ways of criticizing her body and weight” during the film’s production.
She claimed she “was humiliated to learn that Mr. Baldoni secretly called her fitness trainer without her knowledge or permission, and implied that he wanted her to lose weight in two weeks.”
Baldoni’s legal team gave a different account. They stated he contacted the trainer only “to ask what Lively weighed so he could train his back muscles in preparation for a lift scene,” citing his need to “avoid injury” due to “lifelong back injuries.”
Regardless of intent, the result was a confrontation. Baldoni’s lawyers said Reynolds allegedly screamed: “How dare you f—ing ask about my wife’s weight? What’s wrong with you?”
Taylor Swift Distances Herself From The Dispute
The not-so-great news is that Swift and Jackman are listed as potential witnesses in Lively’s legal filings, which sets the stage for an unprecedented celebrity trial set for March 2026.
However, the good news is that Swift’s representative has consistently attempted to distance the music star from the case and is working overtime to ensure she is never called to testify or depose, not even via video.
Swift will not be dragged into court weeks before her wedding over a legal drama that does not directly concern her or her brand in any way.
A representative said, “Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie. She was not involved in casting or creative decisions, did not score the film, never saw an edit or made any notes, and did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its release. The only connection Taylor had was permitting the use of one song, ‘My Tears Ricochet.'”
Swift’s team contends that her name is being used “to draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case.”
Aftermath and Legal Status
Baldoni’s legal team called the confrontation “aggressive” and said Baldoni felt forced to offer “repeated (and completely unwarranted) apologies.” After a judge dismissed Baldoni’s $400 million countersuit against Lively, Lively’s original lawsuit — alleging sexual harassment and retaliation — remained active, keeping the drama and celebrity involvement in the spotlight as the case heads toward trial.
