Britney Spears’s Oldest Son Preston Gives The Heartbreaking Reason His Family Could Not Be Together For The Holidays

Britney Spears The Game Photos

As 2025 came to an end, the divide between Britney Spears and her family remained sharp and very public. Taking to Instagram, the pop singer and her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, have confirmed that the Christmas holidays did not go as smoothly as they had hoped.

Like almost all things related to Britney Spears, there are multiple layers to the drama. In several sweet family updates, Britney Spears shared that the holidays were extra special this year because she was able to spend them with her youngest son, Jayden, 19.

The mother and son bonded over the warmth of Christmas in California, making memories, enjoying a special meal, watching old movies, and exchanging gifts — promising each other there will be more moments like this in the future.

According to sources who spoke to Us Weekly: “Britney had a fun time celebrating Christmas with Jayden—it’s been such a special holiday. They laughed a lot and bonded more than they have in a while. It was a really beautiful and memorable time. It deepened their connection.”

A Bittersweet Mother-Son Reunion

However, the holidays contained a cold dose of hurt for Britney’s oldest son, Preston, 20, who declined an invitation to be with his mother and brother.

Instead, the young man decided to travel to Louisiana to spend the holiday with his grandmother, Lynne, 70, his aunt, Jamie Lynn, 34, and his cousins, Maddie and Ivey.

Jamie Lynn Spears shared a family portrait on social media that confirmed the Louisiana divide. The photo features her mother, husband, daughters, and her nephew, all looking happy and enjoying the holiday season. An insider explained that Preston currently feels more comfortable in the familiar environment of his extended family’s home.

The source went on to say that Preston explained the real reason why he is avoiding his mother, especially during the holiday: “Preston feels really comfortable with his grandmother and his cousins and family in Louisiana, and he thought it would be a nice way to spend Christmas this year.”

Britney’s Sharp Holiday Response

Upon discovering that Preston had declined Bher invitation, she decided to clear the air in the most Britney Spears way. She offered a sharp, extremely sarcastic response on Instagram.

Posting a photo of a Christmas tree, she aimed her caption directly at the family members gathered in Louisiana, highlighting the “unbelievable trauma” she feels they caused during her 13-year conservatorship.

Spears wrote the following message: “Merry late Christmas to my beautiful family who have never disrespected me, harmed me, ever done anything completely unacceptable or caused unbelievable trauma, the kind you can’t fix… To my dear sweet innocent family … so so sorry I was busy this Christmas, but I will definitely show up and surprise you soon … I can’t wait.”

She also included a brief, tender note to her niece, Ivey: “I just want to hold you, my love … Godspeed, friends.”

The Pain Of A Fractured Family

An insider close to the situation told Page Six that the reality behind the Instagram pictures is that Britney, as a mother, is deeply hurting. Despite her reconciliation with Jayden, she has yet to convince her eldest son to meet her halfway.

The person in the know explained: “Britney was really hurt that Preston didn’t spend Christmas with her and Jayden, but he chose not to. She tried to convince him, but he wasn’t ready to meet her halfway.”

Spears has revealed that she will not perform in the US in the foreseeable future.
