The high-stakes legal saga between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively has taken yet another stunning turn.
Recently, both parties faced off, but only Baldoni’s team left the courtroom satisfied after a judge dismantled the majority of the actress’s claims against him and his staff.
In a spectacular blow to the Gossip Girl actress, the court decided to toss out 10 of the 13 allegations — including all sexual harassment claims made against her co-star, Justin Baldoni.
Both legal teams issued defiant statements, with one side claiming victory and expressing appreciation for the legal system, while the other pushed back, offering excuses for why the verdict may not have been in their favor.
Justin Baldoni’s attorneys expressed immediate relief that the most serious personal allegations against the actor and his associates were eliminated.
The attorneys are now left to fight the remaining allegations: breach of contract, retaliation, and aiding and abetting in retaliation. The pair will return to court on May 18.
The Legal Team for Justin Baldoni
Justin Baldoni’s representatives expressed immediate relief that the most serious personal allegations against the actor and his associates had been dismissed.
The filmmaker’s legal counsel remarked to the media: “We’re very pleased the Court dismissed all sexual harassment claims and every claim brought against the individual defendants: Justin Baldoni, Jamey Heath, Steve Sarowitz, Melissa Nathan, and Jennifer Abel.”
The defense highlighted the weight of the accusations and thanked the judge for dissecting the voluminous evidence presented to the court.
The lead attorney explained: “These were very serious allegations, and we are grateful to the Court for its careful review of the facts, law, and voluminous evidence that was provided.”
Reflecting on the fact that only three claims now remain, Baldoni’s side emphasized that the scope of the trial has been drastically reduced.
The legal spokesperson noted: “What’s left is a significantly narrowed case. “We look forward to presenting our defense to the remaining claims in court.”
The Legal Team for Blake Lively
Blake Lively’s attorney fired back, clarifying that the dismissal of the sexual harassment claim was based on a legal technicality regarding her employment status rather than a lack of evidence.
The legal counsel emphasized that the “independent contractor” classification served as a bombshell shield for the defense, effectively blocking the jury from hearing the core of the harassment allegations on the basis of a mere administrative distinction.
The actress’s lawyer argued: “The sexual harassment allegation was dismissed not because the defendants did nothing wrong but because the court determined Blake Lively was an independent contractor, not an employee.”
Lively’s representation insisted that the core of their lawsuit remains intact, focusing on the alleged campaign to ruin the actress’s career.
The legal advocate insisted: “This case has always been and will remain focused on the devastating retaliation and the extraordinary steps the defendants took to destroy Blake Lively’s reputation because she stood up for safety on the set, and that is the case that is going to trial.”
The attorney suggested that the legal process has already served a purpose by exposing a “playbook” used to target women in the industry.
The lawyer claimed: “For Blake Lively, the greatest measure of justice is that the people and the playbook behind these coordinated digital attacks have been exposed and are already being held accountable by other women they’ve targeted.”
In a final note of defiance, the legal team confirmed that the Gossip Girl alum is ready to take the stand to address what they describe as “vicious” online tactics.
The legal expert concluded: “[Blake Lively] looks forward to testifying at trial and continuing to shine a light on this vicious form of online retaliation so that it becomes easier to detect and fight.”
Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni started their court battle in December 2024, almost immediately after their complicated press tour for It Ends With Us — the movie that doomed their relationship.
Lively, with her husband’s full backing, sued Baldoni for a staggering $161 million, alleging a “smear campaign” destroyed her earnings and reputation. The drama escalated into a celebrity web, dragging Ryan Reynolds and Taylor Swift into unsealed documents and a mountain of leaked emails and private texts. The mention of Swift’s name has ended her longtime friendship with Lively.
Baldoni struck back by filing a $400 million countersuit, which was later dismissed. As they prepare for the upcoming court date on May 18, the respective legal teams are ready to fight.
According to reports, Lively’s team is contemplating using Britney Spears against Baldoni in a shocking move. In a 2017 interview, the actor stated: “And I went up and I gave her … I went, ‘Hey!,’ and I gave her a big hug and I think I scared her, because she was like, ‘Hi,’ and I just had this awkward moment of, like, ‘Did I just harass Britney Spears?'”
The comment could be use as an attack on his character. All of this is happening as Reynolds fears that his career might not fully recover after his wife’s legal war.
