The bitter and fiery war of words between Pope Leo XIV and President Donald Trump has officially crossed a terrifying line into physical danger.
Authorities in Illinois confirmed that a bomb threat targeted the home of John Prevost, the brother of Pope Leo XIV, in the Chicago suburb of New Lenox on Wednesday evening. The incident forced multiple neighbors to flee as police established a perimeter around 6:30 p.m.
The authorities deployed bomb-sniffing K9 units to scour the property. While the threat was eventually deemed unsubstantiated, the message was clear: the rhetorical violence of the ongoing Trump-Pope feud has hit home.
The sudden and horrifying escalation comes as Donald Trump continues to wage an unprecedented retaliation campaign against the first American-born pope.
The tension ignited when Pope Leo XIV, originally from Chicago, publicly launched a campaign against Donald Trump and his administration for their domestic and foreign policies.
First, the audacious pontiff condemned the administration’s mishandling of ICE, then he slammed the military actions in Iran and Venezuela, calling for an end to “inhuman violence.”
In response, the president has flooded social media with AI-generated images of himself in biblical robes and leveled personal attacks against the Pontiff’s leadership.
As the feud reached a boiling point last week, Donald Trump claimed: “I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon. I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s terrible that America attacked Venezuela. Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy.”
In a bizarre move to further undermine the pope, the President even attempted to create a rift within the Prevost family. While attacking Leo as a “Radical Left” politician, Trump praised the pope’s other brother, Louis, who lives in Florida and supports the MAGA movement.
Donald Trump stated: “He wasn’t on any list to be Pope, and was only put there by the Church because he was an American, and they thought that would be the best way to deal with President Donald J. Trump. If I wasn’t in the White House, Leo wouldn’t be in the Vatican.”
Despite the escalating threats and the frightening incident at his brother’s home, Pope Leo XIV has refused to back down from his stance on the global stage.
During a recent prayer vigil, the pope revealed: “God does not bless any conflict. Anyone who is a disciple of Christ, the Prince of Peace, is never on the side of those who once wielded the sword and today drop bombs.”

In an interesting development, on Saturday, Vice President JD Vance offered an olive branch to the pope after attacking him while defending Trump.
Vance stated, “I am grateful to Pope Leo for saying this. While the media narrative constantly gins up conflict–and yes, real disagreements have happened and will happen–the reality is often much more complicated.”
He continued on X: “Pope Leo preaches the gospel, as he should, and that will inevitably mean he offers his opinions on the moral issues of the day. The President – and the entire administration – work to apply those moral principles in a messy world. He will be in our prayers, and I hope that we’ll be in his.”
