After being stripped of his titles, arrested, and booted from the Royal Lodge, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has done the only thing a disgraced former prince could do: by order of King Charles III, he marched into what has been described as the “most luxurious open prison in the UK.”
After living a highly privileged life in the 30-room Royal Lodge on the Windsor estate for around 20 years — surrounded by maids, staff, and security waiting on him hand and foot — the relocation to the small, isolated Marsh Farm is seen as a brutal exile.
With almost no staff to assist him, the contrast could not be sharper.
Internal Exile At Marsh Farm
Royal author Ian Lloyd, who penned The Queen: 70 Chapters in the Life of Elizabeth II, told The Mirror that the former prince is now living a shadow of his former life.
Lloyd stated: “In my opinion, Marsh Farm is the most luxurious open prison in the country because he is more or less confined there… he’s sort of, in a sense, in internal exile. He doesn’t seem to be able to go out very often and he’s living a much duller life. There are stories about him just staying at home watching TV, playing video games. You almost couldn’t have a bigger contrast of before and after.”
A Narrow Escape From A Masked Assassin
While Andrew was initially miserable, lonely, and mourning the loss of his horses and royal visits, his gloomy situation has recently turned dangerous.
Reports from The Telegraph and CNN on May 7, 2026, confirmed that the former prince was involved in a terrifying security incident while out for a walk near his new home in Sandringham.
A man wearing a balaclava and wielding a dangerous weapon was apprehended after threatening Andrew. The disgraced royal was walking his dogs when the masked man, who had been hiding in a car, jumped out and began shouting as he approached.
Accompanied by a member of his private security team, Andrew reportedly “rushed towards his own car, parked nearby, and drove away at speed as the suspect allegedly tried to sprint after him.”
Police Confirm Armed Arrest Near “Prison” Home
Local police confirmed the horrific incident in a statement, explaining they were called after a man was “behaving in an intimidating manner” near the home of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
“Officers attended, and the man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and possession of an offensive weapon,” a police source revealed.
The suspect is currently being held for questioning. While the term “offensive weapon” covers knives and truncheons, police have not specified the exact item used in the threat.
Adding insult to injury, Buckingham Palace has remained silent, with insiders confirming that the Epstein scandal email leaks were the final breaking point for the family’s support.
King Charles Blanks Brother Despite Proximity
To make matters worse, King Charles’s currently staying less than half a mile away at Wood Farm to recover from his successful but draining overseas trips. Despite the proximity and the recent threat to Andrew’s life, the King has reportedly refused to visit or even call his brother.
A source told the Mail on May 7, 2026, that the silence from the Palace is deliberate and painful: “Andrew feels that his departure from Royal Lodge was unnecessarily hasty. From his perspective, it was all done to appease the baying media and didn’t need to be carried out in such a rush… The fact that no one else had taken occupancy of Royal Lodge is proof of that.”
The source further claimed that the King is “really rubbing salt into the wounds by continuing to blank Andrew” while staying only a 10-minute walk away.
For the man once known as the Duke of York, the walls of his “luxurious prison” are closing in, with even the King refusing to acknowledge his existence; it seems the reports of complete estrangement are true.
