Well, King Charles has found the most respected man on the job and has asked him to “ice hell over” and repair the situation between his two sons.
Sources close to King Charles told the Daily Mail that an aide to the King has vowed to heal the deep rift between Princes William and Harry.
Theo Rycroft, a former diplomat, is reported to have ambitions to reunite the estranged brothers in his role as Private Secretary to the King, a position he was first appointed to in December 2024.
Regarding the internal frustration with the feud, a staff member told the Mail: “Rycroft believes the situation has become f*****g ridiculous. He thinks it’s time to knock their heads together. The mood is, ‘He’s not wrong’.”
A Diplomatic Mission To Save The King’s Peace
He wants to resolve this matter because, at 77 years old and exhausted by the work, the health issues, and the ongoing Prince Andrew and Harry drama, King Charles wants a calmer environment to recuperate.
The source added that Mr. Rycroft understands the feud causes “great pain” to the King and “sees his job as helping the King resolve it.”
Mr. Rycroft has the capacity to negotiate with anyone and find compromises to bring them to the table, having previously served as a diplomat in the Foreign Office — most notably as Minister and Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Paris from 2021 to 2025.
He has proven to be a shrewd operator, even handling the chaotic “Trump train” by preparing the King and William to meet President Donald Trump in two high-profile instances.
Further reports say Mr. Rycroft is known to be a calm operator with great judgment, and that he has gained prominence within the King’s inner circle.
It is hoped he can use this tactic to bring Harry and William together. He is also reported to be crucially close to William; they worked together on engagements, including meeting Donald Trump during the reopening of the Notre-Dame Cathedral.
King Charles and Prince William are reportedly very satisfied with the way Rycroft handled the diplomatic difficulties posed by those challenging situations.
Regarding the strategy to end the stalemate, a source stated: “Theo believes that Harry and William need to be forced to shake hands and allow Charles to repair his relationship with Harry.”
It is not known exactly how Rycroft will broker a meeting for the feuding brothers. King Charles is set to meet with Harry in the UK next year for the Invictus Games in Birmingham, and there is a possible tête-à-tête this summer as well.
The source said that Mr. Rycroft would not be one of the aides wishing to block such a meeting, adding that while he “may be outnumbered,” after the successful US visit, “he is the most respected man in the building right now.”
