Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have never been ones to back down from a fight. When backed into a corner, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are known to unleash a fiery defense against a monarchy they believe takes immense pleasure in making a mockery of them.
The long-simmering tension between California and London has reached a boiling point once again, this time over the fate of their former UK residence, Frogmore Cottage.
King Charles Plans A Multi-Million Dollar Renovation
The Sun recently revealed that King Charles III has proposed a massive financial undertaking for the property.
Rather than letting the home sit empty, the King wants to spend millions of dollars to convert Frogmore Cottage from a single-family home into two separate units to be used as rental properties or for staff members.
The historic home has remained completely vacant ever since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were officially and brutally evicted from the premises.
However, this grand real estate vision has allegedly caused a massive rift between the King and his heir. Several reports claimed that Prince William, who is working to eradicate homelessness, is strongly opposed to this massive waste of money, viewing the costly conversion as an unnecessary drain on royal resources and a poor look for the monarchy amid a housing and economic crisis.
Prince Harry Reacts To The Property Transformation
The news of the planned renovations quickly crossed the Atlantic, and Prince Harry did not waste time slamming both the idea and the person behind it. The Sussexes are reportedly seething over the hypocrisy of the situation.
To shed light on the couple’s intense anger, Tom Sykes of The Daily Beast reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are furious over the sudden reversal of the property’s layout.
The insider revealed: “I’ve been speaking to sources close to Prince Harry and Meghan, and they are furious, yay verily spitting hairs I tell you, about Frogmore Cottage. You’ll remember it was reported recently that the £2.4 million renovation of the property (originally paid for by the taxpayer, as it was going to be the official home of working royals, but repaid by the Sussexes after Megxit) is being stripped out, and the house converted back into staff flats.”
King Charles Accuses The Sussexes Of Commercial Exploitation
King Charles has thrown cold water on Harry and Meghan’s fiery arguments, firmly shutting down their complaints by looking back at why they were evicted in the first place.
From the palace’s perspective, the couple was behaving crassly by attempting to use a historic royal property as a staging ground to launch reality shows and sell books and streaming services.
Defending the Crown’s decision to sever ties with the couple, Sykes explained that the palace felt it had no choice but to protect its borders from commercial exploitation.
The insider revealed: “The palace’s argument—how could we have people who had sold us out on global television, who were planning to sell us out again on a streaming platform, living in our back garden?—is, therefore, not an unreasonable one.”
But the Sussexes are fighting back by turning public attention to royal financial waste. They plan to harness public astonishment at the scandalous fact that the property has sat completely empty for three years, costing the public purse over half a million pounds in ongoing maintenance.
In response, an insider from King Charles’s camp made it vividly clear that the eviction was a direct punishment for the couple’s constant public attacks and lucrative media deals.
The source shared: “Had they left and not then spent the next five years chucking rocks at the institution, trying to smash, burn everything down, burn every bridge, I think they would have probably been allowed to keep Frogmore Cottage. [If] they hadn’t gone public with all their resentments, they hadn’t made all the films, they hadn’t written the books, they hadn’t called the royal family racist…”
Prince Harry Lambasts His Father For A Heartless Eviction
Prince Harry privately said King Charles was heartless and ruthless for executing the eviction notice the moment Queen Elizabeth II passed away. The Sussex camp firmly believes that the late Monarch would have fiercely protected their living arrangements.
Reflecting on the timeline of the eviction and the Royal Family’s tactical maneuvering, Tom Sykes explained that the Queen would likely have blocked the King’s actions because she wanted to see her grandson and her great-grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The source revealed: “What the Sussex side are telling me now is that King Charles waited until after the Queen had died to kick Harry out. And they say that the Queen would have blocked it because it was her wedding gift to them. I actually think Harry and Meghan are right about this, because if there was one thing the Queen hated, it was confrontation… The Sussexes are absolutely right in saying that she would never have allowed them to be kicked out, because she just wouldn’t have had the stomach for that particular fight, I don’t think. At the same time, Harry was incredibly naive to think that the royal family would not pull every lever they could, yes, to punish him, or alternatively, to force him into exile. Harry and Meghan actually didn’t give the royal family very much choice other than to evict them from the property.”
The fight goes on another day.
