Angelina Jolie appears to be turning the page on one of the longest and most complicated chapters of her life. And this time the dramatic change is not about Brad Pitt, their divorce, their children or another Hollywood battle, but about what the actress wants for herself now that the children she devoted so many years to are growing up and she finally has the freedom to ask a very different question: could love finally have a place in her life again?

The answer may be hiding in the biggest change Jolie has made in years.

The Oscar winner has been moving away from Los Angeles and toward New York, a city that an insider speaking to the Daily Mail claims feels far more natural to her than Hollywood ever did, with the source saying, “In her heart, Angelina is more a New Yorker than a Los Angeles person,” while adding, “She feels more like herself in New York City where she is not really recognized as much.”

That is significant because Jolie spent much of her adult life with her location tied to family and marriage, first through her earlier relationships and eventually through her long relationship with Pitt, with the California lifestyle becoming part of the world surrounding their six children, but now that her children are reaching adulthood, the actress appears to be allowing herself to imagine a life that is not built entirely around being a mother.

And according to the Daily Mail, that could include dating. “Angelina says she doesn’t date but she certainly does flirt,” an insider claimed, adding, “She can be very flirty and cute, I have seen her in action, so I definitely see her dating soon.”

That claim is particularly interesting because Jolie herself has previously described her romantic life very differently.

In June, she told Yahoo Entertainment, “To be candid, I haven’t dated since I divorced a decade ago,” explaining that focusing on her children and family had pushed romance far away from the center of her life.

So what has changed? Perhaps the simplest answer is time.

It has been a decade since Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt, and the years since then have been dominated by parenting, legal battles and rebuilding her life away from the relationship that once made them one of Hollywood’s most recognizable couples, but the Daily Mail insider believes Jolie now feels ready for something different.

“It’s been 10 years since she filed for divorce from Brad Pitt and she feels it’s time to spread her wings again,” the source said. “This is a new life for her, she is ready to fly free.”

That line may explain why the move to New York feels bigger than simply changing addresses.

Jolie has reportedly embraced a more nomadic lifestyle, with New York becoming a base while she travels, works on Atelier Jolie, spends time in Cambodia and follows the increasingly independent lives of her children. The insider said she wants to “explore more of what the world has to offer” and described her as interested in being a “nomad” after spending so much of her life being there for her children.

And then there is the question of what kind of man could possibly fit into that life.

The Daily Mail source offered a surprisingly clear answer: “Whomever she dates, he will have to be interested in traveling,” while making another point that sounds almost like a message written directly across the Hollywood sign: “And he won’t be anything like Brad Pitt. He won’t be a movie star.”

That last detail is especially revealing because Jolie’s romantic history has always been connected to famous men, including Pitt and Billy Bob Thornton, while her rumored connection to singer The Weeknd in 2021 became one of the few pieces of romantic speculation surrounding her after her split from Pitt. The Daily Mail notes that she has not had a publicly confirmed relationship since then.

But if Jolie really is ready to date again, perhaps the biggest change is that she may no longer be looking for another version of the life she once had.

She may not need another movie star, another Hollywood power couple or another relationship that becomes bigger than the two people inside it.

She may simply want someone who can travel with her, understand her independence, fit into a life spread across different countries and allow her to experience the part of herself that has been placed on hold while she raised her children.

And that is why this New York move could ultimately become much more interesting than a real-estate story.

Angelina Jolie has spent years being defined by the men she married, the children she raised and the battles that followed her divorce from Pitt, but now, with her children becoming adults and her California life fading further into the background, she appears to be asking what comes next for Angelina Jolie the woman.

If the Daily Mail source is right, the answer could involve flirting, traveling, a new city and eventually a new man.

Whether that man is younger, older, famous or completely outside Hollywood remains unknown, and the speculation about her private life should not be mistaken for confirmation.

But one thing is clear: Jolie appears to be entering a chapter in which she is finally giving herself permission to live for herself.

And after a decade without dating, that may be the biggest romantic bombshell of all.
