As Queen Elizabeth II battles health issues, she received a delightful surprise from her grandson, Prince Harry, and his wife, Meghan Markle, this week.
Just days before Queen Elizabeth celebrates her 96th birthday, the Sussex couple decided to travel to London before heading to The Hague for the Invictus Games for injured military veterans.
It had been two years since Markle did not see the royal family — therefore, it was not surprising that the sovereign was delighted to have her back in the Palace.
The power couple exited England and their royal duties in early 2020 and live in California with their two children, Archie and Lilibet Diana.
They have made waves and instigated drama with a series of bombshell interviews where they aired out their long list of grievances and humiliated the British royals while at it.
Despite the harsh words that were said, it has been revealed by reliable Palace sources that the meeting with Queen Elizabeth went down as smoothly as possible.
A senior royal has decided to reveal to The Mirror what was said during the private meeting between Meghan Markle, her husband, and Queen Elizabeth.
The former soldier and his spouse had a lovely chat with Elizabeth II and made the tear-jerking promise that they would soon return to England with Archie and Lilibet Diana so she could hug them.
According to the British media outlet, the senior royal claimed: “The meeting was very cordial and incredibly warm and good-natured. Harry and Meghan opened the door to return from the US for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations and told her of their plans to visit again so she could spend time with the children.”
The Queen and other royals, including Prince Charles and Prince William, have yet to meet baby Lilibet, named after Her Majesty‘s childhood nickname.
As for Archie, 2, he left England when he was a baby and has yet to return.
Several reports have surfaced in the past months indicating that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles are sad not to bond and see more of Prince Harry’s two children.
Prince Harry and Markle’s surprising trip and meeting with The Queen have been received with mixed feelings.
Some royal fans and experts have applauded the olive branch, while others had an outburst and called it exploitation of an older woman.
Royal expert Ingrid Seward weighed in on the visit and had some positive thoughts.
Seward told The Sun newspaper: “It is a wonderful opportunity to clear the air and offer an olive branch. After everything that has gone on, it must have taken a lot for Harry and Meghan to go to Windsor. Also, Maundy Thursday is a very special day for the Queen as it is about forgiveness. She is not one to hold grudges, and I think she would have happily welcomed them with open arms.”
Because Prince Harry and Markle had a camera crew following them for a Netflix documentary about the Invictus Games, the royal author Tom Bower decided to criticize them.
Mr. Bower made this harsh comment about the summit: “I have no doubt it was all done for their Netflix documentary. The Queen’s advisers failed to protect her from being exploited by the Royal Family’s worst traducers, while the Sussexes exploited an old, unwell woman to boost their credibility and coffers.”
Because of the drama from the last two years, the power couple will have a hard time winning everyone over.
