Tom Cruise is a legendary actor who is both adored and hated by the public.
The phenomenal star has captivated millions with his daredevil stunts and frustrated others with his deep ties to the controversial Church of Scientology and the heartbreaking non-relationship with daughter Suri Cruise, whom he shares with ex-wife Katie Holmes.
However, in the last few years, Cruise has managed to stay free of all drama and has been solely focused on his career.
Unfortunately for Tom Cruise, his reputation took a brief hit earlier this week after Emily Blunt revealed a private conversation on the set of the hit movie 2014 blockbuster Edge Of Tomorrow.
In an interview on the Smartless podcast, Emily Blunt explained that she had a tough time filming a scene because of the weight of the metal/robotic costume.
Blunt said that she more or less had a panic attack and broke down in tears because she could not do her job.
She confessed: “We had to wear these enormous suits, which would’ve been great if we had CGI’d them, but we wanted to do it in a tactile way. When you hear the word tactile, you think that sounds nice and cozy; there was nothing cozy about these suits. It was like 85lb, and it was so heavy.”
She reached out to her co-star Tom Cruise for help, and he decided to use tough love to motivate her. According to Blunt, Cruise did not hold back.
Via The Times, Blunt revealed: “The first time I put it on, I started to cry, and [Tom] didn’t know what to do. He just stared at me and was like, “I know, I know” I was like, “Tom, I’m not sure how I’m going to get through this shoot,” and just started to cry. I said, “I’m feeling a bit panicky about the whole shoot. He just stared at me for a long time, not knowing what to do, and he goes, “come on, stop being such a p***y, OK?”
The brutal and unexpected words of encouragement worked because Blunt laughed and moved on with the scene. The comments from the actress rapidly went viral, and some lashed out at Cruise for his shocking behavior.
Naysayers did not miss the opportunity to say they were not surprised by his behavior because “look at the situation with Suri” and the toughness that exists in Scientology.
Blunt issued a statement defending Cruise by saying that her comment was taken out of context and added that the actor is a dear friend.
She said: “It’s ludicrous that it’s being spun as something that offended me. It didn’t. I shared the story as lightheartedly as Tom meant it.”
She went on to say: “I absolutely adore Tom, he’s a dear friend, and he was a total gem to me. It was said as a joke to make me laugh, which it did in a big way. And it’s still something we laugh about to this day.”
Cruise remains a controversial figure in Hollywood.
