Meghan Markle made a show-stopping move at the Invictus Games in Germany this week, and it is viewed as a non “self-respecting aristocrat” or “being urban” by some.
It is something that not even Kate Middleton, who is from a middle-class family, would do.
Joining her husband, Prince Harry, for a wheelchair basketball game, Markle surprised many by wearing a pair of classy cream shorts.
The former actress completed the look with a simple black top, a classy blazer or sweater, and flat Chanel slingback shoes.
For some, the look screamed “liberating California woman” but according to The Mirror, an etiquette expert would pull out their hair over the royal faux pas.
The attire is viewed as urban or anti-aristocratic, according to etiquette expert William Hanson, who revealed: “It’s a very English thing to dress a young boy in shorts. Trousers are for older boys and men, whereas shorts on young boys is one of those silent class markers that we have in England. Although times are (slowly) changing, a pair of trousers on a young boy is considered quite middle class — quite suburban. And no self-respecting aristo or royal would want to be considered suburban. Even the Duchess of Cambridge.”
But, guess what? Markle was quickly vindicated after getting hit with these negative tags.
The Duchess of Sussex, who is getting ready to make bank with her Instagram account and the relaunch of her lifestyle website The Tig, confirmed that she has major star power and influence with that one look.
The blazer is from the American brand J Crew and minutes after Markle’s appearance, the company’s website crashed because of the high demand.
Page Six revealed: “Breaking the internet with her awe-striking outerwear, Meghan Markle has single-handedly sent J.Crew’s website to its knees, causing the retailer’s network to crash after famously donning its $158 “Giselle” V-neck sweater blazer in ivory to the Invictus Games in Düsseldorf, Germany, on Wednesday.”
Markle recently crashed another website. After wearing an anti-stress patch, the company saw a bounce in traffic that rattled their website as well.
This week, Markle proved to companies that she can be trusted to represent their brands. She is great for business, and ladies and gentlemen, this is what is called laughing all the way to the bank.
However, some observers say that there is still a lot of uneccessary hype around the mother of two.
