Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, attended a summit for World Mental Health Day in New York.
The Archewell Foundation event was focused on helping families deal with complex issues that can arise when children access social media.
While talking to the attendees, Meghan Markle became emotional as she opened up about her role as a mother to two young children — Archie and Lilibet.
The former actress, royal, and philanthropist confessed that being a mother is the most important role of her life.
She said: “Being a mom is the most important thing in my entire life, outside, of course, being a wife to this one. I feel fortunate that our children are quite young, so this isn’t in our immediate future, but I also feel frightened by how it’s continuing to change, and this will be in front of us.”
The comment about motherhood rapidly went viral and was dissected by many royal experts, including Angela Levin.
The royal commentator and biographer appeared on Sky News where she slammed Meghan Markle for saying that being a mother is the most important role in her life.
The veteran royal author ridiculed Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, by saying: “And they went off again, and then, uh, they then took a holiday yet another holiday. Now Megan is the one who is the world’s greatest mother. She said the main thing, and she’s repeated it many many times: the most important title for me is being known as mom, and I love my children. Oh, oh, mom, mom, mom.”
Angela Levin claimed that Markle is lying about being a caring mother because she goes on vacation with Prince Harry while Archie and Lilibet stay in California.
It is believed that the children are in the care of their nannies and Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland. Levin bashed Markle for taking two trips — to Portugal and the island of Canouan, which is part of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The commentator said: “But, of course, she’s off on holiday all the time. After she did the Invictus game, she went off and Portugal spent
several days away. And then, after this, they went off to an island and spent several days there too. So this nonsense about how wonderful she is as a mother is ridiculous. Because most mothers who really care about their children want to whiz back; they want to do their work and then come right back, but Megan’s always sort of off and, um, very peculiar.”
Via PEOPLE Magazine, Markle slammed the insinuation that she is a bad mother. A family friend told the publication the following about Markle and the relationship she has with her children: “The couple is loving life as parents of two. Meghan is the best mom, and Harry is always on the floor playing with the kids. They are still such a team.”
Markle’s supporters say that her critics go too hard on her.
