Tom Cruise will be playing a new and unfamiliar role in 2024 — a “father” to his youngest daughter, Suri Cruise.
The megastar will be doing so because he is contractually obligated to step in for the child he shares with his ex-wife, Katie Holmes.
When Holmes and Cruise divorced in 2012, the filmmaker made the shocking decision to allegedly cut all ties with Suri Cruise.
Tom Cruise’s allegiance to the Church of Scientology prevents him from having a relationship with a non-member, who is called a “suppressive person.”
The Mission Impossible star has close bonds and is often seen with his two older children, Connor and Bella Cruise, because they are all Scientologists.
In April 2024, Suri Cruise will be 18 years old and will head out to college. According to the court documents filed during the 2012 divorce, Tom Cruise will stop paying his annual child support of $400,000.
However, that is when the second part of the contract begins. Tom Cruise is legally obligated to step up and pay for Suri Cruise’s college.
The Hollywood Reporter, via TMZ, explained the legally binding documents that Tom Cruise signed: “According to documents filed, Cruise must pay Holmes $400,000 per year in child support for the next 12 years—until Suri turns 18. Cruise will also be required to pay for Suri’s expenses, including medical, dental, insurance, education, college, and other extracurricular costs. Cruise and Holmes have reportedly agreed that Suri will not be enrolled in a “residential school” between now and her high school years, meaning that she will be legally unable to attend any boarding schools – including Scientology.”
Sources confirmed to the Daily Mail that Suri Cruise is interested in fashion and is knee-deep in the process of finding a college that fits her education and career needs, and of course, her mother is helping with every aspect.
The source stated: “She has sent some applications out and is leaning towards’ studying fashion in New York City – a choice that would make her style-savvy mother Katie very pleased.”
The insider claimed: “Suri is applying to schools all over the place. [Katie] really does want her to stay in New York, so they can be close to each other. Katie takes great pride in her but is also extremely overprotective. Katie is ‘overwhelmed’ by the idea of her daughter going off to college.”
The person in the know said that Tom Cruise is still estranged from his daughter and has not seen any of her college applications. Whichever university Suri Cruise chooses, Tom Cruise will have to show up with his checkbook and pen.
