It has been a complicated year for Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle — but many royal experts and critics seem to agree that they got one thing right — they have worked hard to protect the image and privacy of their young children, Archie and Lilibet.
This week, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were proven right after a comment went viral and led to some backlash.
The former actress appeared at a panel for Netflix’s short film The After with her close friend and famous photographer, Misan Harriman, where she took the surprising decision to talk about her son, Prince Archie.
The proud mother happily explained that her oldest child is passionate about photography and has requested a very expensive camera.
Markle made it clear that her son would not get his Christmas wish, which retails for between $1,000 and $8,000.
The revelation about Prince Archie’s wish led to thousands of comments on social media. While most found it adorable that he wanted such a pricey brand and was already focused on quality, a few claimed that he was already like his mother and did not like cheap things.
A few claim that he was audacious. Markle was slammed with some harsh and painful comments that said she only mentions her children’s names for headlines or to push her brand.
One royal expert weighed in on Markle’s comment about Prince Archie’s particular request to say that the backlash will certainly remind her to keep her children hidden.
Fox News writer Neil Sean explained: “This is the reason why Megan Markle and Prince Harry truly keep Prince Archie hidden away. We know that both Megan and Harry basically said that they don’t want their children to be put in the spotlight. Now, where it gets really interesting is that a couple of days ago, Megan reemerged after particular video footage leaked of her talking about her four-year-old son. You know that he was interested in a very expensive camera. And you know, when you think about it, that’s what all four-and-a-half-year-old children say now because of the backlash they’re going to be getting.”
The royal expert added: “It has been known that this is exactly the reason why they don’t want to put their children, Princess Lily, and Prince Archie, at the forefront of the media. That simple throwaway remark basically means that people react.”
He concluded by: “There’s a lot of speculation around the children of Harry and Megan: why don’t we see them, and more importantly, where do they go? The last time Megan really opened up about that—certain people might say publicity, was that interview with The Cut the New York Magazine where she was allowing the journalist to take her and her children to school with his lunchbox, so you do get a little bit of insight, but you will read about this soon. The backlash is the reason why Meghan Markle is the reason why Archie is under wraps.”
Markle can never win for some of her critics.
