The heir to the throne answers to no one, even when he is wrong. For the past week, the world has been screaming at Prince William and Kate Middleton for one of the most bizarre scandals that has rocked the Royal Family.
Note that the British monarchy has seen its share of jaw-dropping scandals, including Tampongate which happened because of King Charles III and Queen Camilla‘s steamy telephone conversations.
Sarah, Duchess of York, also brought the crude toe-sucking drama, not to mention Prince Harry in his birthday suit during a drunken trip to Las Vegas.
For Mother’s Day, Kensington Palace released a wholesome and reassuring picture of Kate Middleton surrounded by her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
It was revealed that Prince William took the photo a few days before it was published. According to ABC here is a breakdown of the photo editing: “The original, edited file of the photo shows the photo was processed twice in Adobe Photoshop. According to the metadata of the file, the photo was processed in Photoshop first on March 8, at 9:54 p.m., local time, and again on March 9, at 9:39 a.m., local time.”
Moments after the happy portrait was released, all major agencies, including the Associated Press (AP) Reuters, Agence France-Presse (AFP), and Getty, issued a kill notice because they concluded that the picture was heavily manipulated. The Associated Press said it had to retract the photo “because, at closer inspection, it appears that the source had manipulated the image in a way that did not meet AP’s photo standards. The photo shows an inconsistency in the alignment of Princess Charlotte‘s left hand.”
There are at least eight abnormalities in the photo, including Middleton’s missing wedding ring, Prince Louis’s finger, and Princess Charlotte’s sweater.
Many are baffled by the green grass and leafy trees in the background this time of the year. Some went as far as saying Kate Middleton used the 2016 Vogue photoshoot for the Mother’s Day picture.
The photo crisis traveled like wildfire, prompting the future Queen to issue an apology. Princess Kate said via X: “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day.”
Meanwhile, Prince William has refused to take any of the blame or put an end to the drama. When Prince William was asked about releasing the original photo — he bluntly said no.
The Daily Mail revealed the heir’s supremo and secret decision: “Kensington Palace has refused to release the original Mother’s Day portrait of the Princess of Wales and her children after Kate publicly took the blame for editing the family photograph. The Palace had come under mounting pressure to reveal the truth behind the photo after the world’s top picture agencies – including the Press Association – ‘killed’ the image over claims it had been digitally manipulated. Despite calls for the original to be published, Kensington Palace said it would not be reissuing the unedited photograph of Kate and her children.”
Many believe that Prince William will have no choice but to destroy the decade-old palace policy of “never complain, never explain.”
