While Kate Middleton and her sister-in-law, Meghan Markle, were never the best of friends, many expected a softening of hearts and their relationships after the major cancer announcement.
However, all seems to indicate that this will not be the case. There have been reports that Markle and Prince Harry reached out to Middleton and Prince William in some capacity, but nothing else has been reported thus far.
Prince Harry has indicated that he wants to fly to the UK and see his ailing family members, but Meghan Markle put a stop to the hope with what many see as a ridiculous excuse.
It seems that Markle has decided that she will not visit King Charles III or Kate Middleton because she is not very popular in the UK.
The interviews, the podcast, and the book have made Markle infamous to a large chunk of the British population. According to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams who spoke to The Sun, Markle is fearful of adverse publicity.
He told The Sun: “Meghan isn’t keen on visiting Britain because she is not popular here. Nor is Harry, but it’s different for him. She’s asked for this. If she comes there will be a huge amount of adverse publicity because of the way she has acted for the past four years. On top of that, you have the issue of Archie and Lilibet who are completely blameless.”
Deciding not to visit sick relatives because of the slim chance of getting booed or attracting the media is seen as arrogant by some royal watchers.
The royal author brought up another reason why Markle might leave her royal relatives out in the cold — the lack of security.
He said: “The security would be decided on a case-by-case basis, they would make sure the trip was secure from the point of view of the UK,” he said. “I think security could be used as an excuse not to come though.”
He concluded: “Meghan has every right to come but they have been thrown out of Frogmore and for a good reason. Spare and the interviews around it were horrible frankly. She has the perfect excuse not to come over because Harry has lost his security case.”
Many will point out the fact that Markle and Prince Harry along with their young children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, were able to travel to England during Queen Elizabeth II‘s jubilee, and there were no issues.
