While all of King Charles III‘s doctors and experts are optimistic about him beating the cancer he is currently dealing with, staff members and courtiers are making plans for the heir to eventually take the throne.
Prince William has made it clear that he is in no rush to be King of England.
Royal sources, who work with Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, have spoken to The Daily Beast to explain that they still believe that it will be decades before they replace King Charles and Queen Camilla.
According to a former royal staff member who spoke to the media outlet, Prince William has some ideas in mind on how he will rule as king when the day eventually comes.
Prince William also believes that because King Charles’s illness has forced him to cut back on his workload to focus on his cancer treatment, he has to play the reluctant role of King in waiting.
A source, a former royal courtier, told The Daily Beast: “William and Kate had hoped to have several decades as Prince and Princess of Wales, and, god willing, they will still get them. But what is interesting about the next few months is that William is being forced into a dry run at being king much sooner than he might have imagined such a thing would come to pass.”
The courtier explained that Prince William still thinks he is numerous years away from his big coronation, and went on to hint at the somewhat unexpected name that the heir might take.
The former employee shared: “Of course, he doesn’t welcome it, but there will certainly be some fascinating straws in the wind about what the reign of ‘King Billy’ will look like.”
Many believe that the title of King Billy might be Prince William, using humor to talk about the significant job he will inherit and the burden that comes with it.
Other royal watchers think that Prince William is looking for every possible way to modernize the century-old institution, and having a simple and cool name like King Billy might be part of his master plan.
These experts might be correct because Prince William has hinted that he will take a very different path from King Charles and Queen Elizabeth II.
He wants to dramatically revamp and usher the British monarchy into the modern era. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not part of his plans.
