Kate Middleton and her husband, Prince William, recently hit a major milestone — they celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary.
It was a quiet affair for the pair as Kate Middleton is undergoing treatment for cancer. Nonetheless, the event made headlines and brought up a rather harsh revelation by Prince Harry.
In his bombshell book Spare, Prince Harry dropped the ugly accusation that Prince Willaim only married Kate Middleton because she fits the perfect mold as a royal wife/bride.
According to one royal author, the belittling comments that Prince Harry made about his sister-in-law were a far cry compared to the way he viewed her on her wedding day.
In a piece written by Daniela Elser, she explained: “Harry spent the royal wedding day in 2011 seeming enamored with his incoming sister-in-law, grinning and looking like a man with a generous hip flask concealed somewhere on his person.”
However, after marrying Meghan Markle and relocating to California, Prince Harry dragged Middleton under the bus by saying that she was just another empty dress who fit entirely into the mold of the soft-spoken, pretty dress, dress-wearing, and small chat maker of a royal wife.
She added: “A decade and a bit later, he was singing a very different tune. In December 2022, the Duke popped up on TV screens to suggest to the world that the Waleses’ rose-tinted romance and all the “happily ever after” froth wasn’t a case of love conquering all but of weak-kneed capitulation and of pragmatism winning out.”
However, Kate Middleton is more than a good girl; she leads a quiet revolution in the Royal Family. The author noted: “The thing is, Kate looks like a Good Girl. However, you know what they say about appearances.”
Middleton has been able to play by a set of new rules she created for herself and her family. Princess Kate has prioritized herself and her well-being while taking care of her royal duties.
Elser elaborated: “For centuries, to be a woman who married into the royal family required a complete and utter sublimation of one’s own needs, desires, and identity for the greater monarchical good.”
Kate Middleton and Prince William have decided to work differently, according to the author who shared: “Ditto the actual work that the Princess of Wales does in regular times. The Waleses, in the last few years, clearly thought “sod it” and decided actually to do the work and to change the world themselves, which is they now have the Princess’s Early Years Foundation, the Prince’s Earthshot Prize and the homelessness initiative Homewards.”
Middleton has also been able to push against the royal way of educating and raising children. She stated: “For example, reportedly one of the reasons the family moved to Windsor’s Adelaide Cottage was so that Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis would not grow up cosseted by the privilege and luxury of Kensington Palace and got used to having their fish fingers served via silver salver.”
Middleton is a hands-on mother who drops off and picks up her children from school every day. Elser concluded by saying that Middleton indeed destroyed Prince Harry’s belittling tag.
She said: “On some fronts, yes, the princess has wholly assimilated to royal ways, but on the points that matter, she set her own course and quietly just did what was right for her. Harry might have seemingly obliquely disparaged both Kate and William with his “mold” line, but I think we can say that the Princess of Wales has defied this particularly belittling label.”
The two sides made some choices that make repairing the relationship difficult.
