It was a glorious week for the 18-year-old daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise. The young lady graduated high school and is off to take the world.
Pictures show Suri Cruise enjoying that special moment when she received her diploma from officials at LaGuardia High School.
Suri Cruise was surrounded by her support system: her mother, at least one grandparent, and her close friends.
In photos and video obtained by Page Six, Suri Cruise smiled from ear to ear as she received hugs and flowers from her loved ones.
The teen used her graduation to make a huge announcement — she is dropping Cruise from her last name. The graduation ceremony pamphlet revealed that the student now goes by the name Suri Noelle.
Suri has dropped her father’s last name and adopted her mother’s middle name. A source close to the Dawson’s Creek actress spoke to Page Six to explain the real reason for the name change by saying it is less about going against her father and more about praising her mother.
The insider stated: “She is showing praise for her mother by using her middle name; she made the change because she wants her own identity.”
Tom Cruise appears to have a petty reaction to the decision. Thousands of miles from his daughter’s graduation ceremony, Tom Cruise was seen dancing like a teenager in London at a Taylor Swift concert.
Cruise seems not to have a care in the world as he moves his hips to the music, poses with fans, and happily changes friendship bracelets with several women.
Tom Cruise has not had any contact with his youngest daughter since 2012, and he has no plans to change the situation because of his deep ties to the Church of Scientology.
A family friend of Suri and Katie Holmes explained to Page Six: “This is his loss, his issue, his problem. He must be really brainwashed.”
Another person told The Daily Mail: “Suri will not have any contact with her father, despite being 18, and even if he called, she would not answer,’ one source told DailyMail.com. ‘He does not exist to Katie or Suri, and his daughter does not want to rely on him for anything.”
Many are still baffled that Cruise has time for strangers but not for his own flesh and blood.
