Anne, Princess Royal, had a terrible fall this month, and not much detail was given, leading royal supporters to think that it was a minor incident.
However, the many disheartening developments that have followed indicate that the situation is dire and complicated.
According to the initial report, Princess Anne was rushed to the hospital after she was found unconscious outside at her estate in Gloucestershire.
Buckingham Palace issued a brief statement saying that the 73-year-old royal “sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident at her Gatcombe Park estate.”
King Charles III‘s sister was kept at Southmead Hospital, Bristol, for almost a week. It was eventually revealed via multiple media outlets that Princess Anne sustained a head injury believed to be from a horse’s head or legs.
The Palace declined to comment on the true cause of the injury, but King Charles has more or less given a heartbreaking update on his sister’s health.
Buckingham Palace has discretely erased all of Princess Anne’s events from the schedule. PEOPLE Magazine reported: “As of July 7, a tweak was reportedly made to The Royal Diary section of the royal family’s website involving King Charles’s sister, 73. The Royal Diary is the record of official engagements that working members of the Royal Family plan to undertake, with updates published weeks in advance.”
Princess Anne has been forced to cancel her long-awaited trip to Canada. The situation gets more complicated with reports that Princess Anne is suffering from amnesia and has no recollection of the incident.
Princess Anne’s friend spoke to The Daily Beast to explain: “It was a freak accident, and she still has no memory of exactly what happened. Her family, of course, were deeply shaken by it at the time, but when you own horses, these things happen, and it seems it is a case of all’s well that ends well.”
A close source to Princess Anne’s daughter, Zara, revealed that she is very concerned for her mother, whom she believes is the hardest-working royal. She has been spreading herself thin since King Charles and Kate Middleton‘s cancer diagnosis.
The person in the know shared with The Daily Beast: “This is exactly what Zara’s been worried about happening for years now, but her mom hasn’t had a chance to slow down with everyone else falling apart.”
The source added: “It’s really shaken Zara to the core, and she’s desperately hoping this memory loss is temporary. This has been a huge wake-up call for everyone in the family, and they’re rightfully distressed.”
Many predict that Princess Anne will finally consider retirement and give up her lifelong passion for horseback riding.
