Brad Pitt and his ex-wife, Angelina Jolie, are having trouble wrapping up their ongoing court battles over money and their children.
However, the biggest fight is not inside the courtroom but in the public sphere. Jolie has painted Pitt as an abuser who dragged her by the hair and hit one of their six children during an altercation in 2016 on a private plane.
Pitt wants the world to see Jolie as a terrible mother who raised their children in the wrong way and worked for years to turn them against him.
Sources spoke to PEOPLE Magazine to explain that Brad Pitt wanted to have structure for their children; however, Angelina Jolie intervened and destroyed the plans he had in place.
One person in the know explained that the parents had significant disagreements over their colliding methods of raising their children.
The insider stated that the fights over parenting styles contributed to their divorce. The source stated: “During their marriage, they had very different parenting styles. Brad grew up with the structure and wanted more rules for the kids. Angie had a different upbringing and wanted the kids to be more independent and responsible for their own schedules from a young age.”
The person went on to reveal: “Brad and Angie clashed over this. However, they always have the same vision for their kids’ future. They wanted the kids to thrive by experiencing the world first-hand and not only learn from traditional schooling.”
Another insider played the diplomatic card by saying: “They still both care. They both care about the children.”
Other insiders say Pitt is gaslighting Jolie by accusing her of being a failed mother because their kids — Maddox, 22; Pax, 20; Zahara, 19; Shiloh, 18; Knox, and Vivienne, 16 — have turned out to be remarkable individuals, full of life, passions, and goals to do something extraordinary in this world, despite the challenges they have faced.
The children, in their caring nature, have stood by their mother, providing her with the support and love she needs during this difficult time.
They have, however, turned their backs on their father because of the chaos and pain he created in their lives. A source close to the family told PEOPLE that Pitt has “virtually no contact” with his adult kids but still has visitation with the younger ones.
The person shared: “He has virtually no contact with the adult kids. His engagement with the younger kids is more limited in recent months because of his filming schedule.”
All of Pitt’s children, except Knox, have dropped their father’s last name.
