Matt Damon appeared on a podcast to discuss his latest projects. However, the conversation took a turn about his private life and the drama currently unfolding in his best friend’s life.
Damon has a friendship and working relationship with Ben Affleck that spans almost five decades. Matt Damon and Casey Affleck were guests on the RadioTimes podcast to promote The Instigators.
Matt Damon was asked how he remained married for almost 25 years to Luciana Bozán, a question raised in the context of the recent marriage drama of his friends, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck.
The filmmaker explained that his marriage is still going strong because he decided to marry a woman outside of show business. In contrast, Ben Affleck’s marriages to two famous actresses, Jennifer Garner and Jennifer Lopez, were often in the public eye.
He explained that, unlike Ben Affleck, he stayed out of scandals. Damon met his spouse while she was working as a bartender.
He claimed: “That really helped me—25 years ago, the gossip magazine culture was huge, but they ignored me. I wasn’t an exciting story—the guy who’s married, it’s boring! Scandal and sex, that’s what people would read magazines for.”
He expressed his empathy, stating that he finds it unimaginable how Ben Affleck managed to endure the relentless media scrutiny for over 25 years.
He concluded by: “I’ve been really lucky. Especially when I look at Casey’s brother, Ben. We’ve had parallel careers in a lot of ways, but I can’t imagine living under that scrutiny for 25 years.”
In Lopez’s documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told, Affleck revealed that he was unhappy with his wife’s decision to force him into the spotlight.
Affleck lamented that he was anti-social media and was frustrated that their private letters were out for the world because Lopez is an artist who puts it all out.
Ben Affleck expressed his discomfort with the public nature of their relationship, stating: “Getting back together, I said, ‘Listen, one of the things I don’t want is a relationship on social media.'”
Lopez responded by: “I don’t think [Ben] is very comfortable with me doing all of this. But he loves me, knows I’m an artist, and will support me in every way he can because he knows you can’t stop me from making the music I made… he doesn’t want to stop me. But that doesn’t mean he’s comfortable being the muse.”
This week, Jennifer Lopez officially filed for divorce from Ben Affleck. Lopez dropped the divorce documents on her second wedding anniversary.
