Kate Middleton celebrated a significant birthday on January 9th. As the princess turned 43, this birthday held a special significance, unlike any other this year.

There were no big bashes or fancy gifts; Catherine, Princess of Wales, had already received the best. Princess Kate has completed chemotherapy.

Moreover, she unexpectedly received a great gift from her husband, Prince William. The heir to the throne, Prince William, known for his bold nature, has made the surprising move to stay at home with his wife.

Therefore, the Prince of Wales has surprised and upset some by choosing not to travel to the United States for former President Jimmy Carter‘s funeral.

The kind humanitarian passed away at the age of 100 in December. King Charles III is ill and battling cancer, so Prince William was supposed to represent the monarchy at Carter’s funeral, that also took place on January 9th.

Prince William has decided to be with his wife on her special day. BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond explained: “For her husband and children, this will be an excuse to spoil her rotten and, even though it falls on a school day, I’m sure that’s exactly what they’ll do. I imagine they will shower her with gifts – perhaps a collection of pampering products like luxurious bath oils and fabulously scented candles. Maybe William will buy her some silk pajamas or cashmere jumpers – things that are soft on skin that has been bruised by surgery and treatment.”

The reporter added: “He’s probably got a little bit of romance in him somewhere, and even though he says he’s not a very good cook, Catherine did tell Mary Berry that he’s quite good at breakfasts so maybe a tray complete with a rose will arrive early for her.”

King Charles was replaced by his brother Prince Edward. The Daily Mail confirmed: “King Charles’s decision to send Prince Edward to Washington for Jimmy Carter’s funeral has raised eyebrows and sparked some controversy. Only two presidents, Ronald Reagan and George Bush Sr., had a royal at their funerals — Prince Charles. Surely the present Prince of Wales would have been a more suitable choice than the 14th in line to the throne? Asking William to turn out for Carter was a non-starter. Thursday is Kate‘s birthday, always a family affair.”

The King paid tribute to Carter in a statement that read: “It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of President Carter. He was a committed public servant and devoted his life to promoting peace and human rights. His dedication and humility inspired many, and I remember with great fondness his visit to the United Kingdom in 1977.”

The Prince of Wales has his priorities.
