King Charles III has been forced to face the hard truth about his only sister, Princess Anne, his longest confidante.
Princess Anne has been talking to the media in a rare move, and she is doing it a lot. The grandmother, who earned the title of the hardest-working royal, is back on her feet and is participating in engagements after a significant health scare.
In the summer of 2024, Princess Anne was hospitalized for almost a week after suffering a concussion.
It is believed that Prince William and Prince Harry‘s aunt received a blow to the head because of one of her horses.
After being forced by doctors to take a break to recuperate and canceling a significant tour in Canada, Anne, Princess Royal, recently went on a mini tour in South Africa, where she visited a hospital and made a painful confession about her accident.
According to BBC and PEOPLE Magazine, she has no recollection of the incident. The Princess Royal, 74, was honest and blunt when she stated: “No, I don’t even remember that. I know where I thought I was going, and that was to go to the chickens, which had nothing to do with horses. I don’t know what I was doing in the field because I never normally went that way.”
She went on to share the life lesson that the accident taught her: “It just reminds you, shows you — you never quite know, something [happens] and you might not recover. You’re jolly lucky … if you can continue to be more or less compos mentis [of sound mind], and last summer, I was very close to not being. Take each day as it comes, they say.”
When asked by an AP reporter if she plans to retire anytime soon, she made the heartbreaking confession that retirement “isn’t an option.”
Princess Ann shared: “I don’t think there’s a retirement program for this particular life. Not — at least, I don’t think so. As far as I know, nobody else thinks so — they haven’t been honest enough to tell me yet. So far, so good.”
Via Express, it was revealed that King Charles was heartbroken over his sister’s revelation that she could never pull back from her duties.
The brother and sister had an unusually emotional conversation, where King Charles’s tears revealed the depth of his feelings.
An insider said: “Their conversation about that was unusually emotional for Charles, and he broke down in tears over her lifelong loyalty to him. His Majesty, who is battling cancer, can’t bear the thought of Anne feeling obligated to continue working due to his health issues. In private, he is simply overjoyed that she’ll be there with him until the end.”
Despite the emotional conversation, Princess Anne’s resilience shone through. Staying true to her no-BS, tough-talking, and fierce warrior nature, she remains focused on completing the job of the monarchy and inspiring other family members.
