This is what happened this week: Princess Kate was scheduled to appear at the Royal Ascot in London with King Charles, Queen Camilla, and Prince William.
After some confusion, Middleton abruptly canceled her appearance one hour before the event was set to start. Sources close to the mother of three have made it clear — she has good days and bad days.
After two major appearances — Trooping the Colour on Saturday and Monday, the Order of the Garter ceremony Middleton realized she could not handle the scorching heat.
Additionally, she wants to make it clear that she does not share the love of horses. Indeed, many royals, including the late Queen, her husband, and Princess Anne, are passionate about the subject; Middleton is now openly stating that she has other interests.
One friend of Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, insisted to the Daily Beast: “The couple was right to prioritize Kate’s health and said that if she was feeling unwell, it was absurd to expect her to be paraded in front of the public on a boiling hot summer day, with little shade or air conditioning.”
To be passionate about horses or racing is a choice, and the Royal Ascot does not enthuse Middleton.
According to the Daily Beast, Prince William firmly stood in solidarity with Middleton. King Charles supports his daughter-in-law, albeit reluctantly.
The source said: “Charles has been very insistent that the show must go on, come hell or high water. Kate and William tackle their public duties differently, which is their privilege for now. Charles has been very clear that he supports their decisions.”
But many staff members are furious at Middleton for canceling at the last minute and believed the late Queen would disapprove of the move.
However, another source said that the late Queen, who adored horse racing and considered attending the Ascot races one of the few amusing public engagements she was obliged to carry out, would have been affronted that someone who had accepted the “great honor of a coveted place in the carriage procession” could fail to show up at the last minute.
Another staff claimed Middleton would make an effort scorching heat or not to be at Wimbledon because she adores tennis.
A former royal staffer, was more skeptical about the circumstances and revealed to the Daily Beast: “There is a perception in some quarters that Kate just doesn’t like racing and so didn’t make an effort. That is probably not fair, but you have to wonder if she would have missed Wimbledon because she adores tennis.”
