Prince William is preparing for his eventual role as Monarch, but he has one non-negotiable demand from his father.
The Prince of Wales knows he will someday move from heir to King of the United Kingdom. He will inherit many privileges, including a multibillion-dollar property and land portfolio.
He will also own a vast collection of diamonds, art, and royal relics. Prince William also knows the throne brings heavy responsibilities.
However, Prince William has made it clear there is one thing he does not want to inherit from King Charles.
Clearing the Decks: The Removal of Prince Andrew
Sources told The Daily Mail and PEOPLE Magazine he wanted King Charles to address the burden that is Prince Andrew.
After months of persistent effort, the heir finally got his wish—the disgraceful uncle has given up his titles, been evicted from the royal lodge, and suffered a dramatic name change—he is now Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
A royal aide told PEOPLE Magazine: “There was pressure from William, who would not want to inherit the headache. It was a family decision. It was quite strong, and I was quite proud when I heard it.”
The Heir’s Next Target: Stripping Sussex Titles
Prince William also will not resolve Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s unsettled titles.
He is lobbying behind the scenes, urging King Charles to finish the job the late Queen started: stripping Harry and Meghan of their titles and royal honors.
Prince William wants King Charles to remove Archie and Lilibet’s titles because they have no ties to the monarchy or knowledge of royal protocols, and should not access these privileges. Prince William does not want his niece and nephew as working royals, regardless of their wishes.
Sources confirmed to The Daily Mail that the biggest and most significant reckoning for the British monarchy has not yet taken place, despite all that the world has witnessed regarding Andrew. The bomb that will explode will make Harry and Meghan commoners.
William’s Monarchy: Harry as Collateral Damage

A former royal aide at Kensington Palace, William and Kate’s London residence, told The Daily Mail that “now that they’re picking away at the edges [of the family]’—that would be Andrew—‘a bigger unravelling is coming. That bigger unravelling is Harry and Meghan’s royal titles, status, and honors. The role William has—to try to forge something sustainable—is now in stark relief. And no, Charles isn’t up to that job. Once Andrew stops being the convenient cover, then where will people look next?”
King Charles’s Dilemma: Doing William’s “Dirty Work”
King Charles has quietly tried to warn Harry and Meghan that this “doomsday scenario” was coming from them. That is why he never made the move to give Archie and Lilibet their titles when he became King; he stalled and stalled until Harry and Meghan forced his hand.
