The Duggar family, once the poster children for conservative Christian values, has been rocked by another nauseating scandal that has many saying Jesus, take the wheel.
This week, it was confirmed that Joseph Garrett Duggar, 31, was arrested and charged with multiple counts of child molestation. The arrest follows a harrowing disclosure from a very young victim who was just nine years old when the horrific abuse began.
A Vacation Turned Nightmare
According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office in Florida, the incidents took place in 2020 during a family vacation to Panama City Beach.
The victim, whose identity is protected, is now 14. She participated in a forensic interview where she detailed how Joseph would repeatedly ask her to sit on his lap. The situation escalated during a gathering at a vacation home when Duggar reportedly asked the girl to sit next to him on a couch and covered them both with a blanket.
The police report states that under the cover of that blanket, Duggar “manipulated the victim’s underwear and grazed her genitals.” The abuse allegedly continued throughout the trip until Joseph eventually apologized to the girl, after which the incidents stopped.
The Confession and Arrest
The secret remained buried for six years until the girl’s father confronted Joseph in March 2026. Following that confrontation, Joseph confessed his monstrous actions both to the father and to detectives from the Tontitown Police Department in Arkansas.
“The victim’s father confronted Duggar about these incidents… Duggar reportedly then admitted the incidents to the victim’s father and Tontitown detectives,” the Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
Joseph was taken into custody and is currently held at the Washington County Jail in Arkansas, awaiting extradition to Florida to face two felony counts: Lewd and Lascivious Molestation of a Victim Less Than 12, and Lewd and Lascivious Behavior by a Person 18 or Older.
A Dark Family Legacy
Joseph’s behavior and arrest mirror those of his older brother, Josh Duggar, who is serving a 12.5-year federal prison sentence . Josh was convicted in 2021 for the receipt and possession of child sexual abuse material.
Josh’s history of abuse dates back to his teenage years when he molested five young girls, including four of his own sisters; his parents failed to take harsh and appropriate measures against the son at the time of the incident.
Fans of the long-running TLC series 19 Kids and Counting have flooded social media, with many urging Joseph’s wife, Kendra, to take their four young children and distance herself from the family.
If convicted of the felony of lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim under 12 in Florida, Joseph Duggar faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 25 years and a maximum of life in prison.
As Joseph awaits his transfer to Florida, the Duggar family is once again under the microscope, their legacy further tarnished by the very crimes they once claimed to stand against.
Joseph’s wife, Kendra Duggar was arrested on March 20 and charged with four counts each of false imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child, in a case that could carry a potential sentence of up to eight years.
A source close to the family has now revealed to PEOPLE the alleged circumstances that led to her shocking arrest and legal trouble are not linked to her husband’s case.
The person stated: “I can tell you the arrest was a result of a home inspection, and the door locks being on the exterior of the doors. She’s not suspected or accused of participating in his alleged crime.”
The 27-year-old personality has been released from custody on bond.
