Vladimir Putin, in what can only be described as a state of desperation, has made his most explicit threat yet towards the United Kingdom through both his words and his actions.
Following the deployment of a 10,000-tonne nuclear submarine capable of causing enormous tsunamis along enemy coastlines, the Russian president has issued a terrifying “doomsday” warning to the UK.
The huge ship, called the Khabarovsk, has recently left the shipyard to begin sea trials in the White Sea, sparking a wave of international alarm when Kremlin spokesmen openly called for a devastating strike on British targets.
The Khabarovsk has been designed to carry Russia’s dreaded Poseidon nuclear torpedoes. These self-propelling, reactor-powered underwater drones are intended to move silently through the ocean depths before detonating.
The underwater blast thus produced is able to generate a huge radioactive tidal wave which can destroy coastal infrastructure and naval bases.
Russia has already declared its intention to build at least 30 Poseidon super-torpedoes and four special submarines to deploy them, with UK, US, and French submarine bases named as the main targets.
Kremlin Mouthpieces Demand Strike On Britain
The terrifying escalation comes after British-supplied long-range drones were used by Ukrainian forces to strike targets deep inside Russian territory.
Raging over the attacks, Moscow warned that London would pay a heavy price. Kremlin state television presenter Vladimir Solovyov took the threats to extreme lengths, issuing a terrifying three-day warning to the UK while calling on Putin to unleash the Poseidon weapon.
Venting his fury on state media, Solovyov declared: “Give the British three days to learn to breathe underwater, then hit them with Poseidon.”
Escalating the dispute further, the Russian Embassy in London slammed the UK government for providing advanced military hardware to Ukraine.
The embassy publicly accused Britain of becoming an active accomplice in the conflict, warning: “an accomplice and co-perpetrator.”
Kremlin diplomats went on to claim that London had “deliberately opted for an escalation” by supporting Ukrainian defense forces.
UK Ministry Of Defence Fires Back
The British Ministry of Defence refused to back down against the Kremlin’s reckless sabre-rattling. Standing firm against Putin’s threats, a Ministry of Defence spokesperson fired back: “Britain stands shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine and we are committed to providing the equipment Ukraine needs to defend itself against Putin’s illegal invasion.”
Military analysts also poured cold water on Moscow’s apocalyptic threats, dismissing them as desperate state propaganda designed to intimidate Western nations.
Experts point out that Russia lacks the manufacturing capacity to produce Poseidon torpedoes in significant numbers, leaving the weapon as little more than a high-tech scare tactic.
Dr. Richard Connolly, an expert in Russian defense policy at the RUSI think tank, stressed that Moscow would face immediate and catastrophic retaliation if such an attack were launched. “If they were to do what the Russian TV presenters are proposing, they’d face retaliation from Britain’s Trident nuclear deterrent. So they wouldn’t do it, because they know they’d pay a price.”
Despite expert opinions, deploying the Khabarovsk submarine marks a dangerous high-water mark in rising tensions between London and Moscow.
That suggests Putin is willing to take big risks with nuclear threats, playing a high-stakes game of nuclear brinkmanship as his war effort falters.
